RE: Mabel Vollink grave location
I just checked Mable. She and Peter are both affected. They were both in PV and both actually rest in WPV. Find A Grave's edits are in process.

RE: Mabel Vollink grave location
Hi, Hannah,

There are two Paullina cemeteries - Prairie View and West Prairie View. FYI, Prairie View has been full for some time and almost all modern burials will be at Prairie View West.

I realized the scope of the problem caused not by any single person, but by Eldridge Funeral Home's failure to differentiate the two cemeteries, and FindAGravers' accepting those obits at face value without walking the cemeteries. With that said, some of the families who have been here for generations do still have plots left in Prairie View, so you just really have to watch and walk in order to be accurate.

I am working with Find a Grave to sort this problem out. The first step was identifying who's where. That I did by walking both cemeteries in their entirety in July, August and September. The second step was to see who was duplicated in both cemeteries. I have done that, although I am sure I will find more. FindaGrave took the next step at my request and did a mass move of the duplicates at Prairie View and moved them to West where they belonged. The next step is to "De-Duplicate" Prairie View West, and that means merging the duplicates so that no information is lost. They have all the information, so now it's a matter of getting this done.

Just about everybody who posts to these cemeteries is going to lose some. I know that I am. Find A Grave's practice is that the first one to find a grave gets the credit for it, and keeps the memorial. Even though someone is currently in the correct cemetery, it doesn't necessarily follow that it was posted that way. It is more probable that if a change was made without the graver's knowledge, it was done by FindAGrave. They can look at dates of edits and movements that are not visible to us on the user side.

There are 162 records impacted at this time as far as I know, so it's pretty certain that if you've posted to one or both cemeteries, you're going to see some changes. I do recognize your name, so I'm sure you're one of the affected, but my records are sorted by decedent, so I can't tell you how many are affected.

This has been a long long process, but it will be worth it to have it all cleaned up. If you know you had one (or more) in the wrong cemetery, you might as well delete now and get it over with. If you'd like to send me the names of those who are questionable for you, I can check my records to see if your people are impacted.

I sent an email to Eldridge, and I did not receive a response of any kind, so I guess they don't care... It's almost to a point where, when I see an obit, I'm going to call and see where they're really being buried. The problem is that in the summer, I am out walking the graves, not watching the obits for new burials.

Hope that helps you understand this. Let me know if you need any info or have a special request for family or close friends' graves.
