Bio Photo I am a 6th generation Colorado resident. My gg grandfather, Johannes "John" Bender, came out to Colorado from Wisconsin in 1859. Around 1872, his in-laws, my ggg grandparents, John & Hannah Hammond, left Wisconsin to join their daughter and John in Freshwater, Park Co., Colorado. My wife and I owned a bicycle business in Lakewood, Colorado before retiring in 2008. We enjoy traveling, especially genealogy inspired trips! NOTE!!! Everyone is welcome to use any of my photos with NO credit due me.

RE: North East Davis in New Salem Cemetery
Doug: Sorry I am so late getting back to you on North East Davis being at New Salem. I have not been able to locate my notes made at time I set up his memorial, but felt it was correct. With no headstone in existence, its hard to prove. If I am wrong, always glad to correct the mistake. Alberta

RE: Martha Hammond in Antrim Public Cemetery
I would call the historical society. Tell them Jenny Yates sent you. They have the church records. I have found that sometimes people just see an additional name and assume that person is there too. Very frustrating when I'm trying to match wives to husbands as you are now.

I would be happy in trying my had at researching for you, if you would like. No promises. Email me at with as much info as you are willing to share and I can see what I can find.

We too have many dead end mysteries of our own. Maybe that's why I now do research for others!

RE: Martha Hammond in Antrim Public Cemetery
Hi Doug, I would love to help you, but I have moved from the area and don't get down that far anymore.

I can tell you that when I photograph cemeteries, I do the whole thing. I walk around the stones, I get on my hand and knees, feel for words, even do scrapings if I have to. If his name was there, I would have found it.

I loved this cemetery and was there several times while transcribing it. This project for the county was for the historical society in Madelia where we are from. Have you called them? I have the stones that are visible, but they have the church records that would say for sure.

I did a search for a person one time that had a few relatives in a particular cemetery, but only one stone. When I went to view that stone, there were depressions where other graves could have been. Maybe this too is the case?

My very dear friend, Vivian Monsen who just died, was a Hammond. Granddaughter of John, daughter of Floyd. You must have known her? She went to our church and was the best friend to my grandmother who is still alive in Saint James. She has been my source : ) Do you have questions about the Hammonds? She is 100 and sharp as a tack.

Sorry I could not be better help. I sure miss the area!
