Bio and Links
Bio Photo Don L McCarty Jr, born in Omaha NE in 1962 and graduated from Pope Paul VI High School in 1981. Entered the Marine Corps as a Private immediately after High School graduation. Served over 26 years and retired as a CWO4 in Nov 2007. Graduated from Campbell University in 2000. Married the former Maureen R. Callhan and have been happily married since March 14,1986. Have 3 sons, Don Andrew, Sean and Justin and we currently live in Bristol TN.

I have joined "Find A Grave" for the sole purpose to provide a place for my family members to have a place to pay honor to our family and have a place to display family photos, bios and leave memorial notes.

I am always trying to find more family members and trying to get additional info. I am researching my father's side of the Family (McCarty) who came from Ireland and settled in the Davies Co, Indiana before they settled in the Sheldon Iowa area. I am also researching the (Morgan) side of the Family that started in Conn, then PA, then Indiana and eventually Sheldon IA. I am also researching the (Gannon) side who resided in Ireland before much of the family moved to Buffalo NY area and then Northwest IA. I currently have over 2000 members of the McCarty side of the family.

I am researching my father's maternal side of the family (the Stallmans or Stallmanns) and the Kanngiessers.

I am researching my Mother's side of the family which consist of the (Totmans) which arrived in the early 1600s in Plymouth and Franklin Co, MA, then Warren and Ontario Co in NY, then Grant Co, WI, and then Northwest IA. Additionally I am researching the (Betz) family from IL.

RE: Mabel Habenna
Sorry about that link breaking your page. No, I will not be offended when you remove it. Sorry. I thought it would wrap.

Anyway, I also found this snippet about the colony and the cemetery here:

RE: Mabel Habenna
Hi, Don. I ran across Mabel's obituary when I was looking for something else, but I try never to let one go once I've seen it. Who knows when or if it can be found again?

I did find a short blurb for Fred's passing in the same paper, and have sent that along via his memorial. I decided to take a look in the Dickinson county papers and found another mention of his death there. This note mentioned that he owned a poultry business at Business Corner or Business Corners (the print is very very bad on this issue). It also mentions Mabel and five children, but nothing more specific.

I had never heard of Business Corners before, so I looked that up. It seems that Business Corner(s) was the local Mennonite colony, about which I also know almost nothing. A business acquaintance of mine told me about that cemetery last fall. It's in the next county north, and it's on my Agenda for some Sunday this summer when my husband can come along - as I understand all the stones are very worn and difficult to read. The cemetery is near May City.

This is the only mention I found of the Habbena family in the Dickinson county papers in 1976. It seems that they had left the area quite a number of years earlier.

Obit notice is also in "Iowa Milford Dickinson County Mail News," Thursday, February 12th , 1976. I am adding the link, but they usually do not load well.

There are more than 1000 hits for the Habbena family in that news group, so you may find it helpful to check out this link:

Good luck in this and all of your searches.

Patrick McCarty genealogy request info
Hello, I was wanted to get in touch with you as I am doing some research about my husband’s biological family.
His biological father Clement McCarty is from the Patrick McCarty branch.
my husband is originaly from Omaha, NE (which I saw you were too) he was adopted out of Grand Island, NE in 68. His “bio” father was in Vietnam at the time and his “bio” mother’s family wouldn’t let her keep the baby. Anyway… long story not enough time! LOL!
Wanted to know if you have more information about the McCarty. I am on ancestry.com, and I am just starting with their tree. I have mine (I am originaly from France, so lots of datas) and my husband’s adoptive family, which make me scratch my head and hope that I can have more help on the McCarty side, since Matt (my husband) met his biological family in 1992, and still doesn’t know a lot!
Let me know if you are willing to help me, We live in Iowa (Central West, near Iowa city)
with regards,
Anne J

IZETTA FAHA, Photo Request
Your photo request you will have to contact Lake County Cemetery Maintience District at LCCMD@centurytel.net and ask the cemetery manager the location of this grave site. Then post that location on the memorial you want a photo of that tombstone, if there is one. If there is no tombstone would you be satisfied with a photo of the area close to where that person is buried?

AUDREY JOSEPHINE WEIR
Audrey's stone says 26 Mar 1991 but the written part says 25 Mar 1931 for her death. Which one is right?

Gemmell Family
The Gemmell Family was killed in Maryland when the plan crashed into their house.

We have created memorials for the mother & two children.

The mother was found shielding the two children from the fire & smoke.

Please help us pass the word to have other Find A Grave member show their support & stop by the memorials.

Thank you
Sincerely

URYs in California
Hi Don- A couple of years ago I fulfilled a photo request from you for Joseph Ury in Holy Cross Cemetery in Pomona, California.
This past September I sent you an email about finding a possible spelling variation in Pomona Cemetery, though the email could have dropped into spam.
I know that finding differences in spelling is not an uncommon thing in genealogy, so if you are still searching for URYs, I could resend the email, and hope that it may be a clue for you.

Sincerely~
Sue
