Bio

I have been working on our family tree since about 2002. Our lines include Shepherd, Hayden, McCain, Kirk, Shuman, Huey, Marshall, Harper, Walkup, Pickens, Cox, Singleton, Oliver, Jones, Dickson, Smithson, Perkins, Terrell, Lewis, Miller, Mize, Allison, Bryson, Deavours, Keith, Elrod, Pardue, West, Cobb, Brewer, Taylor, Strickland, Matthews, Cameron, Lawson, Britt, Crowson, Thomas, Sutton, Cain, Hough, Gamble, Neal, Cox, Phillips, Pitts, Standridge, Leathers, Williams, Cooper, Brantley, Brown, Honea and Wallace. Our ancestors came from Scotland, Ireland, England and Western Europe, primarily before 1780 on Ships that include the Prince of Wales and the Earl of Donegal. Several fought in the Revolution as Continental Regulars, North and South Carolina Militia's.

I am a member of the SCV (Sons of Confederate Veterans)and the MOSB ( Military Order of the Stars & Bars). Future goals include joining the Sons of the Revolution.

My family fought in the American Revolution(my wife's Ancestor was a Regular in the Continental Army, War of 1812, My Wife's ancestor was in the US-Mexican War of 1846-48, The War for Southern Independence or War of Northern Aggression ( Civil War is not a correct term as we were two nations at war), Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II. (Grandfather was exposed to poison gas during The Meuse-Argonne Offensive, also known as the Maas-Argonne Offensive and the Battle of the Argonne Forest, was a major part of the final Allied offensive of World War I that stretched along the entire Western Front. It was fought from 26 September 1918, until the Armistice of 11 November 1918, a total of 47 days. The Meuse-Argonne Offensive was the largest in United States military history, involving 1.2 million American soldiers, and was one of a series of Allied attacks known as the Hundred Days Offensive, which brought the war to an end. The battle cost 28,000 German lives and 26,277 American lives, making it the largest and bloodiest operation of World War I for the American Expeditionary Force (AEF), which was commanded by General John J. Pershing, and the deadliest battle in American history. American losses were exacerbated by the inexperience of many of the troops and tactics used during the early phases of the operation. Grandfather was in the 113th Battery D, Field Artillery US Army.

The Meuse-Argonne was the principal engagement of the AEF during World War I.

Father served in US Navy USS J. Franklin Bell PA-16 in the Pacific Theatre in WWII 1944-1946.
