Hello Judith! (this is the 3rd time I've done this message- I don't think it took the first 2 times- 3 times the charm?)
Thank you for your quick reply. I appreciate the fact that you are willing to share your information, and I think it will be worth the wait.
Have you seen this Rootsweb page about the Sutton Family?http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~snipper/appy/suttonjbio.html
It has alot of interesting information. If you have any info on Eliza and her parents I would be greatful.
Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
sincerely, Larisa

re: message left for Corp. Joseph Leander McDowell
Hello Judith Sutton Kenagy!
My name is Larisa, and my husband is the gr, gr, grandson to Joseph Leander McDowell Sr. (DOB 10/8/1837 Macon Co. N.C.), and the gr, grandson to Dr. Joseph Leander McDowell Jr.(DOB 11/26/1861). Last week I saw the beautiful and touching words you wrote on the Find A Grave web site for Corp. Joseph Leander McDowell. Those words led me to believe that you might know about the life of that mysterious man, as well as his family. Could you PLEASE help us understand?
I had hit a massive brick wall trying to find anything about Joseph Sr., Then I found this free genealogy website through Rootsweb that was full of information I could not find before http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~snipper/3mir/coxdickeyl.html . This website helped answer many questions, yet leaving me with several bigger questions: According to this website; Joseph Leander McDowell was born to Eliza McDowell Sutton(DOB 6/4/1816 Burke Co. N.C.) and fathered by Burton Kimsey Dickey (DOB 2/10/1813 Rutherford Co. N.C.) at the time a wealthy merchant in Macon Co. NC. This happened while Eliza was married to John Sutton, having several of John Sutton's children before and after the birth of Joseph Leander. Can you help explain this parentage? The web site also hinted that before the Civil War Joseph Sr. had several government jobs, and that during the war Joseph Leander McDowell Sutton was a Corporal in the CO G 3rd TN Mounted Infantry Regiment using 2 aliases- JL McDonald and/or Leander Dickey? Can you shed some light on any of this information? We would greatly appreciate any information about Joseph Sr., as well as his mother Eliza, his grandparents, along with any interesting facts. It is exciting in this day and age to find Family information on line, because traveling hundreds of miles is out of the question. I love the feeling like a detective trying to find the pieces to a never ending puzzle. Thank you for your time!
sincerely, Larisa
