Bio and Links
Bio Photo Looking for all 13 children and their families from Patrick William Corcoran and Emeline Amanda Alley. We are hosting a trip to Huddersfield, England 2011, County Mayo, Ireland 2012 and Lawrence, TN 2013. Richardson--in Carroll County, TN 2014. Hunter--in Arkansas 2015. We need everyone's help to follow our families trails!

We have over 12,411 family members with surnames of Corcoran-Hunter-Richardson-Zook-Moseley-Downing-King-Crowley and many more surnames on ancestry.com. And, over 18,459 family members on my maiden name side--Seifferlein and Leyes families from Germany to South Bend, Indiana. Besides our German heritage we claim French, Austrian, Swiss and Prussian royalty.

My mother, Elnora Lydia Seifferlein Leyes, has spent 74 years researching genealogy of our direct line. She traveled to Europe seven times to gain stamped records from the archives. She went to the Mormon Church in Utah before computers many times, to fill in missing family members dates and places.

Our line is much more complete because of her extraordinary efforts, starting with her grandmother in the 1940's and taking notes and using her newly purchased box camera to record family events.

Mom inspired the whole family to continue her work forward. I have taken many of these documents, newspaper clippings and photographs and placed them both on ancestry.com and here on findagrave.com. My sister did in-the-field research with my mom in the 1980's. My older brother is a historian who worked for the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. He is writing a book for the Library of Congress. He and I flew with mom and dad to Europe and spent three weeks going through the Land Archives to gather stamped records of our family. Thank you mom for inspiring us and seeing the value in preserving our heritage! And, many thanks to our cousins who have shared and helped fill in our family trees with stories, newspaper clippings and photographs.

We made a contribution to The Ellis Island Foundation--"The Wall of 700,000 Immigrants"--for Patrick William Corcoran's name was unveiled July 2011 in New York City. We paid for a headstone to mark his grave on Laurel Hill in April 2011. These two commemorate our first Corcoran family in America. We have a 9 generation wall chart. We are working on a book. We will share our GEDCOM file.

These lines included 3 European Royalties--Kings of England--Egbert, Henry I and Edward I. The famous Benjamin Crowley in Arkansas, are in our family, as well. We also have stories of our very poor families living in one room houses who were cotton mill workers, who never owned the house or the land beneath them. All of these make our lines "colorful" and fun to explore! Migrations are mostly from NY>VA>NC>TN>AR>AL on John's side. My side are through the Great Lakes, some stopped in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and others into both Michigan and Indiana.

We believe genealogy should be free so living family members can connect. That's why we are adding some of our data here. We appreciate this site's opportunity, and we humbly thank the founder and his staff. Please give generously to this site to keep this tradition going.

Love hugs to all of my fellow genealogists who are so extraordinarly helpful. This is truely one gigantic puzzle that we spend thousands of hours on together. God Bless each and everyone of you for your humble part in preserving our sacred past! Thanks for being so nice and helpful.

PS
I added the Old Bethel Cemetery in Lawrence County, TN.

This Baptist graveyard is abandoned. It has one half Alley-Ashmores buried there. The stones are now illegible. If you have any knowledge of the people buried here or any photographs please share!

RE: Lavina Fleming Markham
Thank you for completing the requested updates, genealogy research is a work in progress, so new information is always being found. I would appreciate it if you would not paste the update request emails verbatim in the bio page, that is not what the submission was intended for. I am happy you wish to continue managing Aunt Lavina's memorial as she had no children or descendants. Thank you

RE: Thank you, Jan..
Hi! I wasn't sure about the daughter & wife, I figured you would say something or remove it if it wasn't needed. I will look for their pages & move them both. Excuse the error...Newbie here just learning the ropes. Thanks for letting me know, Jan

I think that this subject was the FULL brother of Emmeline Amanda Alley Corcoran. He was b. Nov. 1840 and his mother Lucy Turbefield died in 1840, leading us to think she died in childbirth with him.

Emily Schott Wolf
Hi John and Wendy,
Emily Schott is my great grandmother and I have always lived in Arizona. I remember her well and have photos of her. I don't know much about her parents John and Barbara and have always wanted to know more. Ancestry.com has some photos and info on private member trees which doesn't make sense, when we should share what we have. Could you share photos or info about this family with me. I am 81 now and would like my kids and grandkids to have memories of these relatives. Thanks for the wonderful work you do to keep Find a Grave updated so we can all enjoy getting to know our family.
Regards to you both,
Barbara Noack

Graves
Hi Wendy and John, I found where my gggrandmother was buried and took some pictures, She is Mildred (Acklen) Shepard Her son Wesley Shepard,A Uncle and Aunt and a cousin which is Christopher Jr, Sarah, and Augustus Acklen. I also put down how to get to the graves. They are on a dead end road next to the water they are the only graves that was left after the man made lake was formed. I think because they were on a high rise.

Thank you Wendy & John!
For taking the time to look that up. I so appreciate it. I'm rather new at this stuff & I'm just trying to enrich a few other sights with my family trees on them. lol. Makes my head spin after awhile. You & your family are seasoned historians it seems. Goodness. So lucky! I totally agree, I think he probably moved to SD & maybe remarried. Who knows how long Aunt Syb & he were married.
Again, I'm very grateful. And you did that so quickly!
Wishing you good health & much happiness my friends!
Sue
ps. I'm going to add you as my friend on Find A Grave! :)

Hi Wendy and John,
Thank you for the lengthy bio on the family of Thomas Wakefield. My father took me to that cemetery 50 years ago and yes he is our kin too. Our line is through the daughter Jane who was married to Newton Goodwin. My email is on findagrave if you want to reply. Thanks again.
