Whitethorn Cemetery quest
Susan, I was born and raised in Pittsylvania County and many, many of my ancestors were born and lived their entire lives there. My husband and I went searching for Whitethorn Cemetery today, and we thought we had found it. I am looking for the grave of William Butcher, born 1750, died 1800. The graves in the cemetery we found all seemed more recent, but I'm wondering if we saw all of the cemetery, or if some of the graves are no longer marked. It was in a clearing in the woods near the intersection of 649 and 689. We turned south on 689 and passed the entrance; went to a house past Whitethorn Road and talked to a lady who told us how to find the cemetery. From the satellite pictures, I feel we had to be at the right place. There had been a lot of logging on the west side of 689 since the satellite pictures were taken, and also some just south of the cemetery. What else can you tell me about this cemetery?

Hi Susan
I too am a contributor to Find-A-Grave and have been researching my Harris family since the 1980s plus, am from Virginia, moved to South Carolina about 8 years ago, but truly ache inside for my roots in my home of Va.
Was directed to your listings for this cemetery in Pittsylvania county, through my DNA/Ancestry connection to Lucy Harris and several others, so was hoping we could share our history and families.
Please contact me at tofuti45@gmail.com or through this site.
Keep up the great work back home gf :)

Harris Family
I noticed you have added memorials to the Harris Family Cemetery including Find A Grave Memorial# 72579038. I am looking for a bunch of Harris's that are listed as buried in the Family Cemetery or family burial ground on their death certificates. Specifically Albert Pritchett Harris. 1887-1956. Would you happen to know if this Harris Cemetery might have him buried there? I know the Harris Cemetery is listed in Pittsylvania County and there are many buried there. Including: his sister Florence. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The transfer has been made. Your son was a handsome young man and I am sorry you had such a loss. I appreciate your words of kindness. My grandson would have been six in January and pain continues still in our hearts.
