Thank you for taking the time to photograph the grave marker of Howard Davis. It was the final touch to complete the memorial for him on the internet.

Find A Grave Memorial# 56499903
I walked through the Stony Bottom Cemetery, Pocahontas County, WV three times this evening. I never did find James Henry "Pegleg" Ryder's gravesite. (Find A Grave Memorial# 56499903) I did find a few other Ryders and took photos as well as documented all the data on their stones.

On the 4th Tuesday of Oct., I plan to be at the McClintic (Marlinton) Library for the monthly Genealogy Group meeting. I'll see if Stony Bottom Cemetery has already been surveyed for their books, and if they have your grandfather listed. If you have a copy of his death cert., which funeral home conducted his services? Some in that cemetery were handled by Wallace & Wallace in Arbovale, and others by VanReenan Funeral Home in Marlinton. Unfortunately, the VanReenan Funeral Home lost all of its records in the November 1985 flood. The water came up in such a manner, that people couldn't get into town to help others, or to move things up in shops, schools, funeral home, etc. The flood water had us blocked at all acess/entry points. (I have twice had major losses in classrooms in Marlinton.)

If I find any more info., I'll let you know.

RE: Virginia Smith
Thanks for everything, including her husband Clyde, and George and Lovina Smith. And yes it was ok to transfer.

Looks like it was a nice day at the cemetery, I visited when I was there 2 years ago and of course I found more people I needed when I returned home, it seems that is what always happens.

photo req. for Stony Bottom Cemetery
We live only abt. 45 min away from Stony Bottom. Right now my truck is out of commission. When I get it repaired/replaced, I won't mind at all to look again. Before then, I'll talk with some genealogy folks, ministers, etc. who might be able to help find his stone.

These are our Pocahontas County, WV genealogy sites which might help to you, if you need it.

Unfortunately, the VanReenan Funeral Home in Marlinton lost all its records in the 1985 flood. Therefore, for burials prior to that, they can't be of any help for individual gravesites.
