Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a speech Language Pathologist. I stumbled into the addictive world of Genealogy in my search for my father and his first family. An obituary for his sister, my Aunt, led me to my First cousin Doris and my half-sister Rachel. My sister had been working on the family genealogy for 25 years. So we have a shared passion.
I have been meeting family on Facebook and had fun finding the connection. Its a puzzle to be solved.
What led me into the search for graves & headstones it was the need to find the names of my grandmother's short-lived siblings. I only knew of the 11 who made it to adulthood, but a recent comment from an older cousin about Great Grandmother having 17 children after finding a 2 mo old on a census has me searching to add those lost to the family archives.
I am searching for the graves and records of the Children of William Hillary Poindexter and Mollie E. Mills from Gibson County, Tenn. Hillary and Mollie are buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Jackson, Tenn. with my Grandparents, Edward Dabney Terry and Mattie Lucy Poindexter, my Uncle Edward Terry and most recently my Mother, Elizabeth Anne Terry Byars.

You are very welcome.

I read your profile and see that you are searching for Poindexters from Tennessee. Coincidentally, I posted a photo of a Poindexter who was from Tennessee last evening.

69311393 and 54272134

I am not sure where the family came from, but thought I would mention it in case you were interested. Much of my family also comes from eastern Tennessee and Virginia. I plan a trip to the Chattanooga area later this fall to photograph some cemeteries there.

Good luck in your search!
Michelle

I am sorry the vandals got his marker. You go to a cemetery and there are broken gravestones and overgrown weeds and people are dumping garbage in some! It is an OUTRAGE!

You do not want to stay and explore and try to put the pieces together of the broken markers cause whoever broke them might come back and attack you. Or you can get a spider or snakebite.

We have had vandals stealing brass/bronze any and all metal ornamentation from veterans' graves even sculptures and selling them for scrap metal! They even steal mausoleum doors and stained glass windows to sell. And there is an extremely BAD Occult problem with all that connotes...

Anyone who takes cemetery photos in my part of Texas will have the police called on them because they think you are there to steal, vandalize or for occult purposes. Many obituaries here will NOT have the name of the cemetery in them for that reason.

It hurts me like it was my own family when I see destruction in cemeteries. I think about the families who sacrificed much to buy a nice marker so their loved one would be remembered--and as a reminder for future generations!

It is almost the the point where cemeteries have to hire armed security personnel in many areas.
