RE: Memorials #66623855 & #67207173
I must apologize for being so long to respond to your quick reply. I really appreciate your willingness to help out, and yes, your kinship is certainly “close enough” for these purposes. I finally got by the library and obtained a copy of Simri’s CSA service record and also his burial card from Linwood Cemetery (I would be glad to scan these pages and send them, if you would like to have the images). I will need to get a couple of signatures on the application from cemetery officials here, which is merely routine. The only thing I really lack is the family authorization letter. What I’ll do is compose the letter and send it as a text file attached to an email message for you to print, sign, and mail to me. Then I will enclose it with the application package I mail to the VA. I already know your kinship to Simri, so all I need is your last name, your mailing address (for the return address on your authorization letter), and an email address where I can send you the letter. Many thanks for your help getting this grave marked. – John Mallory Land / 1605 17th Avenue / Columbus, GA / 31901 / newsompage[at]yahoo[dot]com

Memorials #66623855 & #67207173
Hi – I am a volunteer working to update the Linwood Cemetery records. I am wondering if you are related or connected in any way to either Simri R. “Sim” MURPHEY or to his wife Laura (BEDELL) MURPHEY, or if you are in contact with anyone who is? I believe I have identified the lot their graves are in (not identifiably marked), and if I can confirm Sim’s service in the CSA, he would be eligible for a free headstone from the VA, but I will need authorization from a relative for the application. Once it is approved, the marker will be manufactured and shipped free of charge and volunteers will set it at the grave. I have successfully applied for and placed about 30 such markers in the Columbus area. You may see an example of one I have set at Memorial #116649406. Thanks, and best regards – John, newsompage[AT]yahoo[dot]com

John T Metcalfe Portrait
Hi Jony,

Thank you for posting the wonderful picture of John T Metcalfe's portrait.

Can you share with me where the portrait is located?

John T Metcalfe married Harriet A Colles a very distant cousin of mine and it would be wonderful to see it in person if possible.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Mary Armstrong
I think I have it worked out. You are looking for Mary Barbee Armstrong, who was the wife of John Milton Armstrong Sr. The other Mary was a small child. If you will reply to my email address attached to my bio giving me your email address I will send you a copy of the lot card. In the meantime I am going to attach Mary Barbee to your request.

Two Mary Armstrongs P-83
I will get a lot card next week because it's going to take more than just pictures to solve this puzzle. One of the stones is very difficult to read. AND there are also two John Milton Armstrongs (Jr. and Sr)Did each marry and Mary? Be patient.

Mary and Mary K. Armstrong
There are two Mary's buried in Section P, Lot 83 and they both died in 1866, Mary K. was buried 25 Sept 1866 and Mary was buried 18 Aug 1866. The cemetery does not register birth dates. State law says they have to record burial dates and that's what they do. I will try for the pictures but if I come back with two of them then we'll have to make a memorial for the other one.
