I am an active geneologist (over 40 years) and understand the need to reach out to someone in the area where family once lived to find things that seem to be out of reach. I live in Spokane, WA.|

I've already verified the dates and am so appreciative of your having sent the information.
I research most of the people whose gravestones I photograph because I'm working on the early families of Rutland County, Vermont. (My husband's family has been there for 8 generations and is related, if only as a kissing cousin, to nearly every family there and my research has carried me far from the primary trunk of his family tree.)
So, I research these people for most of the year, and when I go to Vermont every summer, I take a long "to do" list of photographs. But there are always gaps in my data, as in this case, where I simply have not had the time to complete the research. Or, as the poet says, "way leads on to way" and I never got back to the original road. Then, it's only when someone jogs me, as you did, that I return to finish the job.
What I'm saying is that I'm not a casual phone-tographer or someone who simply snaps photos of gravestones - although there's nothing wrong with that; it all adds to the available information! But, because the people in my memorials are part of my own database, I want the information to be as correct as possible. And it's for that reason that I ask for sources. So many people simply download what's on other people's trees, and a lot of what's there is fiction or wishful thinking or conjecture, and very little of it is sourced. There's nothing wrong with any of that either, but it doesn't work for me. I want to know the difference between fact and fiction before I enter the information into my database and circulate it via my find-a-grave memorials.
I'm always very grateful for the edits that come my way, and I always ask for sources. Unfortunately, the new edit system at find-a-grave does not encourage this. It makes one-click acceptance very seductive, especially when we are all so busy and pressed for time. Many people get upset when I send my standard request for source information because it slows down the process, makes them communicate with me directly. So, I appreciate when someone does not take offense and understands my wish for accuracy.
All that being said, if someone sends me an edit and says, "I don't have a birth record, but this is what my family has always known to be great aunt Mary's birth date," I accept that as well. Family information is valid, possibly more valid than much of what is published.
So, thank you for prompting me to look further into this memorial and for your understanding.

The conflict is that the death record gives 25 January 1895, not November. And I didn't have the WWI record or SSDI. I'll confirm those and then accept the edit.

Please send a source for the birth date. All I have to go by is what's on the death record, and that may be a calculation rather than the actual date of birth.
|Tami Lindsay||Chester Carleton|
Thank you for the info! I was able to locate his death certificate because of your information.

Yes, I am the one who took the photo and I am also the one who has asked for its removal from Ancestry. I am sorry but I do not give permission for my photos to be put on Ancestry.com. On the other hand you are welcome to keep the photo in your personal files with attribution. If you would like more information on this issue I have explained myself on my profile page. Feel free to take a look.
