The old stones can be quite difficult. There are many in my area and I do prefer them I have to say. But, boy can they make my eyes hurt and my head spin! Sometimes I can see nothing, others I can look at it and POOF! clear as a bell!

Thanks again.

Wow, this was one of my very first photos in that area and I hadn't been Find a Graving for terribly long. I can't imagine why I didn't get closer to the stone, for some reason I feel as though I couldn't. Flash back! LOL

Yes, the other photo clearly shows a 4. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

RE: Joseph James
Just wanted to let you know there must be a delay in receiving SACs. I just now (2:28 p.m) received the SAC regarding the baptism information for Joseph James.

Regarding the SAC you sent for Joseph James, please advise where you obtained his birth date of 30 Dec 1823.
Thanks!

Hugh E McGlew
I made the addition of Hugh's death entry in Mass Death Index, from your research.

Do you want me to transfer the McGlew family to you ? I am not related.

Hi Laurel Lee James,

I don't have anything on-hand, but I will look into identifying his parents.

RE: Hugh McGlew
Hi,

I'm sorry you feel that way about the photo I took about two years ago. I can assure you that the photo is authentic.

It was a while ago but if I remember correctly I had to remove dirt off of the top of the stone to make it visible. The haze around the edge of the stone is not a photoshop touch-up of some kind, it is the dried up dirt that I couldn't remove from the top of the stone.

One of the problems with small stones that are put in horizontal to the ground is that over time they sink into the ground. If they have a large base under them this happens less but such is not the case for Mr. McGlew.

Sinking into the ground also happens to upright stones (vertical placement) but the difference being that two inches underground for a vertical stone is very little in terms of the full size of the stone. In the case of a horizontal stone, two inches could put the stone completely underground.

Please be assured that I did not fake the image in the photo, it is real. If you go back to his plot and take a sharp instrument of some type - poke it into the ground slightly and I'm sure you will hit the top of the stone which is most likely underground by now.

If you prefer, please call me and we can meet at the cemetery and we can discover his stone together. I live about three blocks from the cemetery.
