Mt. Erie "Old Yohe" Cemetery
Hi - I know you were concerned like I was about the condition of this cemetery. Just FYI, I contacted Jack Kelly with Graveside Services of Johnsonville, IL and met him at the cemetery in early June. I asked him to do some work for me on my Davis-Clifford stones in Row 20. He called me on June 30 twice and ended up resetting 5 monuments for me. He worked hard to dig up older stones buried. He seemed to care about his work, and helping me. I recommend him if you need work done in Wayne County IL. Let me know if you want more information about him. I still have a mission to somehow get this cemetery restored. It looks awful. Janis [Jones] Hendrick in Minnesota

Mt. Erie "Old Yohe" Cemetery
I noticed you have taken some photos of stones in the old Mt. Erie Cemetery. I'm sure you may have noticed the broken down condition of this cemetery. I grew up near Mt. Erie, IL and attended a reunion in Cisne near there in August. I drove over to Mt. Erie and was aghast at the condition of this cemetery. I am hoping to plan a restoration project for this cemetery. I am not sure where you live, but wondering if you may be interested in joining us for an effort next year in restoration. I contacted a cemetery board member in Mt. Erie recently to no avail regarding this issue. My family has some missing stones [probably laying in back] and broken stones. We need to preserve the history of this cemetery!!

RE: Slocumb
Michael said he tried to get the name fixed before and had no luck so I will try myself. Maybe third time is the charm. I think it will take some time to do. I'll let you know if I do.

RE: Slocumb
I'm traveling for a week so don't have my books. Yes it is a headache but easy to solve eventually based on the location of the cems. They may have multiple names as with Shaeffer. But there is only one location. So I'm working with Bettie to resolve. It will take some time. I only see one Slocumb. All of the 7 there are I the Slocum cem with the right location for Slocumb. Bear with me. Keep your memorials in Fairfield if you like until I get it fixed. I'll also check with one of those others when I get back, maybe even before if I can. Thanks for your patience.

RE: Slocumb
Fantastic! I just got frustrated seeing the mistakes. Hope we can clear us the Slocum/Schaefer mystery with a good photo. Then we have to figure out where to put it! Good luck next week.

RE: ps... re: Fairfield cem
One site on the web calls the cemetery Shaeffer-Slocumb and gives that same location as the Bland books. On FindAGrave there are now two Shaeffer cemeteries, different locations and one seems to be the Slocum location. Lots of confusion . . . a real mess to straighten out. One at a time. Sigh.
