Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been entering photos and genealogical information on my family members and from old cemeteries in my area, many of which are deteriorating fast.

I have photographed and transcribed the remaining headstones in the Porter Cemetery on River Road in Lyme, NH, the Beale Cemetery in East Lyme, the much smaller Gilbert Lot on River Road in Lyme, and I have photographed and transcribed all of the legible memorials in the Old Lyme Cemetery. I am a long-time genealogist with a couple of Cary surname articles published in The American Genealogist and Rhode Island Roots.

RE: Find A Grave Memorial# 82106913
Thanks for the correction. It's been a while since I took the Lt. R. Mitchell photos, but I recall they were definitely taken at cemetery right in Lyme Village across from the old horse stables and near the church. I remember because I was not able to locate a cemetery off River Road and got caught in a morning thunderstorm while searching. I can't. recall how I located the headstones in the Old Lyme Cemetery.

I've deleted the photos from the Porter Cemetery Memorial, but saved them and the captions into a MS Word document. If you want them, email mail me at and I will send you the Word document as an attachment.

You are absolutely correct in that the landowners are very sensitive about visitors. This is an area with large, gated properties. We were lucky to be able to walk back to the cemetery to photograph our ancestors graves. The next door neighbor, whom we found out in her driveway, was kind enough to go and talk to them and get us permission. The landowners came and unlocked the gate to let us on the property and then lurked nearby for the twenty minutes we were there, following us back to the gate to lock it behind us.

When I magnify the headstone photograph you appended, I read "1812 - 1906."

The birth and death dates on this registry--created in 2013--at present read "1842 - 1905."

Please look at # 79797596 created earlier in 2011. The dates match your photograph with a substantiating newspaper death notice. Might you append your photograph to this registration instead?

So very much obliged.

Eric found Asa's stone. He will post the pic for you. One question, there is a small infant/child stone with the initials H.C. on the back. Do you have any idea who could be buried here?

There are more. I was part of a group that volunteered to clean the cemetery. We went this weekend. Were you the one looking for a photo of Asa Cary's monument? The sign for the cemetery posted on his page by accident. I will return to the cemetery and take more photos if you'd like.

Her memorial page should be all set with the incorrect gravestone photo eliminated.

Thanks so much for spotting the error,

Thanks for letting me know about the wrong gravestone photo that is posted to her memorial page. I wrote to the gravestone photographer and will see if the change is made. There has been no correspondence on their contributor's page since 11/ perhaps they are no longer active...will see what happens before I notify administration.

Thanks so much,
