Loughlin/McLoughlin was probably just one of those naming things that changed over the years. We Americans don't really understand Celtic naming conventions. My own g-grandmother was a Leary/O'Leary, depending on the record - and I'm sure both were correct! :-)

I'm not related, just came across Archie's death certificate in the Northbridge Town Records on, as part of a project I'm working on, and saw the discrepancy.

When I looked a little further, I found that their marriage record is also on Family Search, so you might want to do some checking there. I know it was a Massachusetts record - perhaps Northbridge, too? Not sure, but her name clearly say McLoughlin on that record, but the transcription (I THINK) is Loughlin, because of the way the Mc was written. (However, if you look elsewhere on the page, it's clearly McLoughlin, not M. Loughlin.)
