Bio and Links
Bio Photo I research families of Southwestern West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. I'm mostly interested in the Dillon, Beckett, Bailey, Marcum, and Brewer families in Logan and Mingo County, West Virginia, and the Fitzpatrick, Miller, Hopson, Cassell, Ward and Clay families in Lawrence and Martin County, Kentucky. I started researching in 2008 when I was at a family reunion and saw research that my cousin had started, and I grew up hearing stories about my family that left me even more intrigued.
I also do a lot of research on cemeteries around the Dingess and Marrowbone areas in Mingo County, West Virginia.

RE: Augustus O. York
I did a google map search for Tolsia High School. Just to the left of the school using google earth/satellite view you will see a house with a pool. On the hill to the left of that house you will see a clearing in the trees. That is the cemetery. I drove past the trailer that sets really close to the road, and parked at the bottom of the next driveway to the left. You will see a small path that leads you right to the cemetery. It is very grown up so I would suggest going before all the vegetation starts growing. Once on the cemetery, I did notice a 4 wheeler trail that was a much better way in but not sure where it came out. Either at the old white house you pass that looks like 2 joined houses or the house to the left of that has it's own driveway onto 52. Hope that helps you find it.

RE: Vance Cemetery
Hi Zach,
Vance is not an easy place to find as it's several miles off a main road not to mention the creeks we had to drive through. I've been there twice in my life, the first time an uncle took us there so we could visit my grandfather and great grand-parents graves, the second time was by accident when I went with some distant cousins to visit the Belcher Cemetery and realized the next cemetery over was Vance. I'll look through my notes and try and get directions for you.

RE: not a tombstone, but may help
Hopefully I'll be going to my fathers house this weekend. He lives right beside the cemetery and i'll see what I can do for you.
