I found this site searching for my ancestors and was so happy with what has been contributed for mine that I wanted to try to help others who are looking for their ancestors in the county I live in, which is Burke County NC. If you want any of the memorials I have posted transferred, just leave me a message and I will be happy to take care of that for you.|
All of my ancestors are from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Delaware. Surnames I'm researching are Brookins, Bray, Farr, Walton, Rowe, Shropshire, Mattiford and in North Carolina Adams, Smith, Brittain.

Yes your on the money, I have a picture of Sarah
Ann, but her father wasn't James Joshua it was his brother Thomas, Thomas settled the property where
Susan Wilson ( also a cuz )now lives Pin Hook Farms, this is where
Sarah Ann was bitten by a rattle snake and the indian living on Pin Hook Creek, cut open a live chicken and applied it to her foot, pulling the
venom out, saved her life.
Also have a picture of one of the Brookin girls
from a news paper article, memory serves me right
she was in some kind of Piano or Violin competition. I am leaving the country for a vacation, England and southern Italy, be back
first of July stay on me and I will get you all the imfo I have, I am glad you contacted me because I am a bit shy on your family.

|Sister Sonya||Mary Shropshire|
Just got a new camera and decided to get a better picture of Mary's Headstone, and you can pretty much read it now. :) Her date of birth has 1823!
|Debbie (Miller) Lewis||RE: Anna R Miller Mattiford|
Since you contacted me, I've been digging into the Mattifords. There's lots of info on them out there.
Father's name: John Denney Mattiford, Sr.
First wife's last name may actually be Clough. I saw some post on the web talking about how the name changed to Cloud(s). Martha must have died beteen JUN 1842 and 1845 as John Sr. married again. Wife #2 is Temperance Jane Van Winkle and they had at least 4 children in Smyrna.
The Asbury Methodist Church in Smyrna, Kent, Delaware has some birth and marriage records on the family. Burials are in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Smyrna. You can find them on Find A Grave.
I have found 4 children belonging to John D. & Martha:
1. (John Dennis) Denney (1842-1920), who married Rebecca Scotten and emmigrated to Huron Co., OH. They had at least 5 children.
2. John P. who married Anna R. Miller. Haven't found a lot on him yet.
3. William (1838-1905), who married Mary or May Elizabeth Miller and emigrated to Niles, Berrien Co., MI. They had 13 children, but only a few survived.
4. James - haven't found much on him yet, either.
