RE: Find A Grave Memorial# 85406480
My dad's mom was a Gaul and she's was more closely related, I think I remember that soomeone said that the one who went to California was a 'big' man. My father told me that the Gaul family reunions were attended by literally hundreds of people, they even constructed a very large tent for the occasion. It would be fun to know some of the descendants of the California group. I'm 80 years old and my Dad was born in 1910 so reunions referred to would most likely happened in the 1930's. When Philadelphia destroyed the Gaul cemetery, they made a chart of all the descendants of John Frederick Gaul including the Cincinnati, Ohio ones who the California ones came from. I recently had a serious computer crash so lost lots of info.

Brunnworth Family
Thank you for catching my error. I believe the individuals that I had linked as her parents were actually her brother and sister-in-law. All I know about this family is from information shown on Missouri death certificates. Thank you again, Jerry.

RE: Powells
Hello Sherri,
Thanks for the info. I took a look at my tree. It is doubtful Henry Fox was still alive in the '50's. The Powell & Fox my uncle spoke of must have been a generation later. I show Henry and Leah having had 3 children. I believe I got the info from a census, but cannot remember. According to my tree (I will have to go back and research) there was a Guila born 1889. There is a marker on here of one dying 1892 in Clay Co. 2 later children of David & Guyla. I have had trouble finding further on any of this family. I have no final dates for Leah or Henry (I have an estimated birth at 1861). I must have missed his obituary. I'll go back to the library and get it soon.
I do have Evan's obit. If you have an email address, I can send it to you. I have also tried to keep my costs low. I have basically been using free local services for research. Also, I don't have a copy of the Fox marriage record if you could maybe send me a copy. My email is michjed@frontier.com. You can email me with information so you can keep your address private.
Thanks, Jeff

RE: Powells
Hi again,
i just looked up Elizabeth in 1900 Census. It shows how many children/how many living. It shows that she had 9 children, 8 of which were alive. John, Evan, Reese, Seth, Leah, Thomas, Phillip and David all lived after 1900. It very well could be that Sophia was her child, but she died before 1900.

RE: Powells
Hello Sherri,
It has been real difficult getting parents of David or Elizabeth Powell. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to trace them in Wales without knowing the parents due to the surnames being so common. I have found 2 possible Census reports for them. One is from 1860 in Huntingdon County, PA. It has David, Elizabeth & son John living in the Upton Hill household. It has Upton's mother-in-law as Joanna Evans, so I am assuming Upton would be their brother-in-law. The problem with it is David is listed as about 10 years too old. No other possibles that Census. The 1870 Census has the family living in Rock Island County, Illinois. David & Elizabeth would be the right age, as would children John, Evan & Leah. It does show Sophia (the only document where I have seen her), and a son by the name of Kresse or Resse. I assume that is Reese. Problem with it is there is no Seth. he would have been 4, and I know he lived until 1950. On that one it shows Susan Evans (looks more like Suean). Unsure which, if either, is the right family.
I don't have death dates for those 3. I know John was in th 1880 Census, but I don't show John in Indiana after that point. No local obituary or memorial on this site. Sophia only shows up on that one Census, so if that is the right family, I assume she died as a youth. I know Leah stayed in this area. Her widower lived in Terre Haute in the 50's, with one of the brothers. My uncle remembers visiting his uncles, both widowers. One was a Powell, the other a Fox.
As far as the gravestone for Thomas, I am unsure. I have not been to that Cemetary, but have put a picture request on this site. I have obituaries from everyone except John & Sophia. Do you have some documentation on Sophia other than the one Census? I may have overlooked something on her. If there are any Obits you lack on this family, I may have them. Do you live near Terre Haute? Just curious, since you have the obits.

Powells
Hello Sherri,
Thanks for the message. I guess we're related. Evan Powell is my 2x great grandfather. I recently ran across those pictures. They were my grandmother's photos, complete with names on the back. I have information on about the whole line since moving from Wales. If you have anything before that or are interested in comparing notes, feel free to email me.
