Mr. Sprague: Thank you so much for the tombstone photos of Eddie A. Hisaw (#6392800) & wife, Cassie Belle Ford (#6393140) in Stirling City Cemetery, Butte County, CA.

I saw your note on Demster Sprague's memorial. I thought you might find this interesting:

From:
"Doane Robinson's encyclopedia of South Dakota"
Published by the author, Pierre, S. D., 1925
Transcribed for Genealogy Trails by Sara Hemp

The Company Descriptive Book of Company B, Dakota Cavalry, 1862-1865:

"Demster B. Sprague, age 34. Born in Seneca, Ohio. Farmer. Enlisted March 31, 1863 at Elk Point, S.D., under Capt. Tripp. Honorably discharged at muster out, 1865. Was a Sioux Falls pioneer of 1859. He was a teamster in the service, and regarded weak mentally. He died in Yankton about 1870 quite suddenly from the effects of excessive drinking of intoxicants given him by his associates during an early day carnival."

You had no death dates. I found Lydia's death date as 1987 on FamilySearch. However - the cemetery gives a location where there is no marker. Since I had no death date for Gonzalo, the cemetery cannot look for him. The location for Lydia is Section "C"Tier 9, grave #34. I put a flower marker at that spot for a photo. If you want it removed, let me know.

William D Sprague
Hi Matt,

In looking at some trees submitted I ran across an entry stating that William D Sprague married a Margaret Hayden Smith Fleetwood. It suggests that she put in for his military pension. Do you know if this is correct?

Thanks
Tonya
