Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired elementary school teacher and administrator. I am very passionate about genealogy and the history of Western North Carolina and Blount/Monroe Counties of Tennessee. I will be happy to share photographs from local cemeteries here in the Crabtree/Iron Duff area of Haywood County, NC.

If you have time, I would appreciate your paying a visit to the memorial for my brother David Edwards Nichols, Metz Cemetery, Graham County, NC. David passed away on February 17, 2012. He was an avid genealogist and took many photos of stones for Find A Grave, as well as located pictures of individuals so I could post them. I have many more to post because he worked much faster than I. He's in Heaven now, and knows the answers to many of the questions I still have about our ancestors--always a step ahead of me. Thank you.

David Edward Nichols

RE: Elizabeth Van Loon
Thank You! No I've never heard of him, nor read his article. I'll look it up. A photo! I'm excited. Again, thanks.

Susannah Hampton
I’m trying to establish my 2nd GGMother’s maiden name. Her married name was Elizabeth Van Loon and she authored 4 books in the 1880s. She was born in Yancey County, NC on 6 Mar 1844. According to the North Carolina Government & Heritage Library, Elizabeth might be a Bailey or Hampton.

(See here: http://www.ncpedia.org/biography/van-loon-elizabeth)

On the 1850 Census for Yancey County there are 2 Elizabeth Baileys born in 1844. One married and died there and is not my Elizabeth. The other is your Elizabeth Bailey. She is also listed in the 1860 Census. Your Memorial on Susannah Hampton Bailey said Elizabeth was born in 1854. Maybe you meant 1845? Is there any possibility that the family story of all these girls dying of Black Tongue Fever might have confused how many died and that she might not have died? My Elizabeth did marry a Northerner – maybe the family just considered her dead anyway:>(

Any help you could provide would be great appreciated. BTW – great memorials for both Susannah and Jonathan.

Hazel Bradford McCracken
My hometown newspaper published an extensive biographical obituary for Hazel Bradford McCracken. At the time of her passing, her son and daughter-in-law resided in my hometown. I welcome sharing the article with you should you want it for your family's records, and should you want it to feature in the biography for this memorial.

I await your reply.

Warmest genealogy regards,

Good Morning Frances,

I have transfered Henry and Lula to you and if I have anyone else that you want point them out and they are yours.

James Albert Waldrop, Lula's first husband, is a distant cousin to me.

Enjoy the family puzzle,
Ray
