I am a member of Wood County Texas Genealogical Society and try to help people when they visit or query names for Wood County. I have found Find-a-Grave to be an invaluable source for information. If you have a memorial that you would like under your supervision, please ask. I am not a memorial hoarder and I am not interested in adding memorials at a breakneck pace. This website belongs to the public and I will help in any way.

RE: Byrd Cemetery
I believe that you are right. John is buried in Rock Hill. After an inquiry I received this email from a family member.

Message body

There are a number of relatives buried in Rock Hill. This is where Wesley and Emmeline Goldsmith Henderson are buried. They are the adopted parents of Savannah Henderson Morris who was John Calvin’s wife. Her brother John Wesley Henderson is also buried in this cemetery. I know you probably also know all of this but it helps me to tie it all together. Andrew J. Morris was ½ sibling to John Calvin, M.L. Morris in this cemetery is Margaret Louisa Galloway Morris – one of Thomas Dydamous’ spouses. Another half brother to John Calvin is buried here, Marion Monroe Morris, son of Thomas Dydamous and Margaret Galloway Morris. There is a Sarah Morris Bird here, another child of Thomas Dydamous.

And, Texie Morris Kimbrow was briefly married to a Bird. I guess with all the relationships on both side of the family – the Hendersons and the
Morris’ side, it stands to reason that this may very well be the place where John Calvin is laid to rest. End of email. We appreciate your work on Rock Hill and I appreciate the information from you and the relative. Betty

RE: Byrd Cemetery
As you can see, John Morris, is the only person buried in Byrd Cemetery. It has been a mystery. I believe that the actual cemetery is Rock Hill Cemetery in Yantis, Wood, TX. I have wondered if it was once a family cemetery. The actual family name may have been Bird. There are many members of the Bird family buried there. I have contacted some family members to see if they have discovered more information.

RE: Lilly Cemetery, Wood County, TX

Please refresh my memory. Who is Mr. Lilly? I don't recall any edits for this person.

Thanks for all you do for Find A Grave

thank you
Thank you for the Maxine Taylor Heard photo. I tried to find it 2 years ago but the wind was cold and blustery and I gave up looking.
