Howard Allman and Ada
Hi Rick~

In researching the Allman family of Manhattan, KS, I came across your reference to William Allman -- your great grandfather and brother to Howard Allman. Howard Allman married a woman (his second wife) named Ada Evans by whom he had a daughter, Lucille. Lucille would marry Edgar Tafel (the second marriage for both) who was a NYC architect and former apprentice to the great architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Lucille came to know Wright personally; and Wright once visited Manhattan, KS, back in 1952. I am trying to find a photo of Howard's wife Ada. Would your family happen to have any? I understand that she was quite memorable -- always wearing the most fashionable hats. Howard Allman was quite a businessman. He had once operated the best hotel in Manhattan -- the Gillett -- before making his fortune in the burgeoning oil industry in southern Kansas at the same time that Sinclair established his gas and oil company. That company's founder -- Sinclair -- was, of course, at the center of the famous Teapot Dome scandal. In any case, I've searched and searched for a picture of the Howard Allman family -- Howard, Ada, Lucille, and Marjorie (Howard's daughter by his first wife who left him to run away with a traveling circus performer/clown). It's all very interesting, isn't it?! Just thought I'd write to share some info with you in the hope that your family preserved some images of Howard and Ada. Thanks for your time. Best regards, ~ Mick Charney

I called Green Wood for you today and was told that there are in the Bible Mausolem, 1st floor,
setcion of the last supper, crypt 171, so you add to your records.

I don't ever go out that way, but if I can I will in the next few weeks. But with the location maybe someone can get there before me.
