I became interested in researching my family only a few years ago and I've been very successful in that short time. My parents lived in Caroline County Maryland when I was born quite a long time ago. My paternal grandfather has roots going back on Maryland's Eastern Shore and Delaware for many generations. My other grandparents located to Caroline County Maryland from New York, New Jersey and California.

I have found Find-A-Grave to be a valuable resource and the contributors to be absolutely amazing in helping me to find graves that were unknown and very far from home.

I hope to be able to help others by adding to the listings with grave sites and photos too.

RE: Chowning/Barham grave photos
Patti,
Oh, I nearly forgot to tell you Levi and Julia share the same tombstone. Her information is on one side and his on the other. The building you see in the background is the Chapel Hill Church--Baptist, I think. Also, on the Church grounds is an old boarded up one room school house that kids within walking distance attended. The old out house is still there as well. You can see a satellite view of the church and cemetery on Google Maps. The satellite view gives you an idea of how rural the location is--surrounded by farms. When I took the photos a big black angus bull watched me--good thing there was a barbed wire fence between us.

Oh you are certainly welcome! It was just a little disorienting for me to do the repeat but on the other hand I can always use the exercise I get from walking tombstone rows.

Hi Patti,

I took a picture of William Chowning's tombstone and uploaded it. I noticed that the photo has been deleted and the photo request reset. I think if the photo requests are not for tombstones then it should be stated as such. It does take time and effort to go to the cemetery, take a picture, resize the picture and upload it.

Susan E. Lile Chowning
Patti,

Thank you so much for putting up the photo of Susan Lile Chowning. I am one of the many Lile descendants here in Missouri. Susan E. Lile was the daughter of William H. and Elvina Mullins Lile. She married Levi Chowning in Howell County, Missouri on January 25, 1883. I believe this was Levi's third marriage. They left Missouri between 1880 and 1910 and moved to San Bernandino County, California. I believe Levi and their sons worked as carpenters.

Levi Chowning
Hello:

Sorry for the delay in adding this picture. I was apprehensive to add it in case it was the wrong one. The office gave the spelling of his first name as "Leive." It seems his grave is unmarked so I took a picture of the section the office told me it was in. If you want to update the record, they advised his grave is at Section N, Lot 26. They printed out a detailed map of the location that I can e-mail to you if you'd like, let me know.

Take care!

Yes, they did cremations at that time. i ordered my great grandfathers death certificate from 1933. They had it locally but it was not readable. The certificate copy had to come from Sacramento,CA. You might contact the San Bernardino CO. one to start though.

Goofed thaqt up!!oops! Anyway I went to Pioneer Memorial she is not there. I went thru all the Pattons and found another family of Pattons. (15)They are entered for that cemetery, including information found on ancestry.com and family search. All the Patton's are now entered for Hillside the only Redlands cmetery, including additional Buss(s. I beleive her to be a coincidence of name. There was a Elizabeth at Pioneer but it is even further off. I called Mountain View in San bernardino, none listed. Also Evergreen and Olivewood in Riverside, a close town. Also Zero. There was some backyard burials like all towns but I do not find her in Redlands CA for any census. Odd. Orlando and Martha yes. The only other option was Campo Santo a catholic cemetery, and I have entered all the records they have already. I am stumped.
