During the 1840's 8 of 9 Matthews siblings/cousins immigrated from Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland and first settled on the borders of Brooke Co., Virginia (now W.V.) and the state of Ohio, before moving to Lafayette and Johnson Co., Missouri. They were Robert, Thomas, James, William, David and Andrew Matthews and Jane, who married William Simpson and Rose, who married William Pool, Sr.
The 9th sibling/cousin was Patrick Matthews, who first immigrated into lower Canada, with his wife, Mary and young son, William, before moving to Vermont for a couple of years and finally settling into Northern New York. Patrick, wife, Mary and 7 of their 8 children are buried in St. Lawrence Co., New York. Patrick and Mary's son, Hugh, who was married in 1875, moved to Northern California, where they raised three sons, The Patrick Matthews family is buried in San Benito Co., California.
We were able to verify the Matthews siblings/cousins names from an old 1856 letter written by their Uncle Patrick Mathews of Lynchburg, VA and by Uncle Patrick's 1870 Will, which listed all 9 Mat(t)hews, Simpson and Pool siblings/cousins as his nephews and nieces, as well as listing some of their children's names.
We're now hoping to find the names of the 9 Mat(t)hews siblings/cousins' parents in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. We would like to find the Mat(t)hews descendant or Antique Collector, who is willing to share this information from one of the old Mat(t)hews Family Bibles.
If you are a Mat(t)hews, Simpson or Pool descendant from the Missouri Mat(t)hews siblings/cousins, a descendant of Patrick Matthews of New York or an Antique Collector and would like to share any Matthews family information with us, please feel free to contact us and add "MATTHEWS" in the subject line. Thank You!
We welcome any corrections, family links and/or additional information, that you would like to share with us. Please kindly let us know if we have duplicated any memorial. We have tried our best to avoid this problem.
