We must be related
Hi Virginia,
If A.J. Smith is your grand-uncle, we must be related. He was my 2 great grandfather! It's always nice to stumble onto another cousin.

Michael Pierce
If I counted correctly Michael Pierce is my 10th great-grandfather. I'm and the daughter of William Eugene Curtis who is the son of Roy J. Curtis, who was the son of John Franklin Curtis, who was born John Franklin Pierce but changed his name and ran away from Ionia to Oklahoma at the age of 13 along with his brother who was 10 at the time because he did not like his stepmother. His bio parents were: Ezra and Adelia Marie Piatt Pierce. They divorced about 1874. Ezra got custody.

John Franklin Curtis (Pierce originally) was the son of Ezra Pierce who was the son of Ariel Pierce who was the son of Lawrence Pierce who was the son of another Ezra Pierce who was the son of Benjamin Pierce who was the son of Ebenezer Pierce who was the son of Benji Pierce who was the son of Michael Pierce.

Michael would be my 10th great grandfather. And yes he was killed by Indians in King Philip's war. Michael was born in England about 1615 and came to the U.S. about 1645. He was married to a woman named Persis Eames (also born in England). Their first child was baptized in Hingham, Mass. in 1645 or 1646. They had 12 children. The first (Persis #1)died shortly after birth Dec 31, 1662. Michael's wife Persis died shortly after the birth of their 12th child (Persis #2). He then married a widow Anna Allen, three months later. He and Anna had no children.

Michael, who had served as a Navy ensign under British Capt Miles Standish was selected by the Scituate, Mass., colony in 1669 as the captain to head that colon's militia. Pioneers usually were also farmers and Michael is thought to have been one too. Little more is known about him. either during his time in England or after he came to Massachusetts.

A memorial to Michael was dedicated in 1907 at Central Falls, Rhode Island, a town on the site of the battle where he was killed.

Where do you fit in the lineage?

Hi Virginia, You requested a headstone photo for James McGuire in June of 2012. It had been fulfilled in 2009. The memorial has a headstone photo. Would you please remove it from your requests at Hillside Cemetery in Allegan Co., Michigan.

Thank you
