I was fortunate to become interested in our family history at a time when many older family members buried in Texas were still alive. To have been a member of a caring family that kept in touch and always welcomed each other, gave me the privilege of preserving many of the memories that were shared with me and those I participated in along the way. Most were willing to share things they could remember – provided they first were convinced I didn't think they were "living in the past." I miss all of them and have special memories of each one I knew and those they remembered.|

Death certificate for uncle Ben shows birth 8-27-1902 and death 3-29-1953
The marker displayed shows 1900 - 1955 which is off on both dates, and definitely his birth, since he shows up as 8 in a 1900 census.
The 1900 Census in Justice Precinct 5, Navarro, Texas taken 12 Jun 1900, shows him as 8, which he would have been in June 1900, but two monthls later in August 1900 he would have been 9, making his birth year 1891, opposed to what was on his death certificate, which showed 1902.
You show the birth 8-27-1890 and death 3-30-1953 in the memorial.
On 5 Jun 1917 Benton Richard Talley filled out a World War I draft registration card in Foard County Texas at age 26 when he was living in Crowell. He listed his birthdate as August 27, 1890.
Benton Richard Talley filled out a World War II draft registration card in Hardeman County Texas at age 50 when he was living in Quanah. He listed his birthdate this time as August 27, 1891 which I believe based on the 1900 census where his birth parent would have provided the data as discussed above.
I think the death certificate likely has the correct date of death at 3-29-1953, because I was still two when he died. You show 3-30-1953
He was the first family member I ever remember dying as a child and he and his half brother Joseph Claude Davis whom I lived with in Quanah were very close. He was over all the time, and spent time with me. Since grandpa Davis was more like my father, Ben was just uncle Ben.
I would respectfully suggest revising the birth to August 27, 1891 and the death to March 29, 1953, making note that the data in the marker on his grave which was made later, is in error, as it clearly is off by 9 years on the birth and 2 years on the death.

I'm not even close to 170 and I'm deteriorated. Ok, closer than I like.
Glad I could find something for someone. Made my day!

I will see if I can find a way to reach Thomas Cooke.
I had received a message from him some time ago that the family was moving so he may be wrapped up in some of the things getting settled.
Thanks for the reply on Great Uncle Ben.

I know that I had contacted you previously regarding Great Uncle Ben Talley's memorial that you created in in August 2012 requesting a transfer which you appropriately chose to keep as a family member related to him.
At the time, I did not realize there was one for Great Uncle Ben that predated yours by two years. Like you, I knew Uncle Ben in Quanah growing up.
I noticed another memorial for him that (like yours) links to Catherine Jane Blythe Talley (his mom) and my great-grandmother and noticed that it was created 2 years earlier than the one you created in 2012, which was made by Thomas Cooke in 2010.
I didn't know if you were aware of it. Both the original and duplicate now link to my great-grandmother and her 2nd husband James Frank Talley's memorial which I manage, that was created in 2007.

Mr. Cooke also created the one for my great-grandmother it links to in 2010, and he too is a descendent of hers as a great grandson.

You may wish to collaborate with Mr. Cooke to resolve the duplicate records and links.
I manage the memorial for Benton Richard Talley's father James Frank Talley and would welcome any biographical info you might have on his biological father's earlier years and family, to hopefully clear up some alternate trees which appear to have two somewhat different Frank Talley individuals marrying Catherine Jane (Blythe) Davis. I don't know which one if either is accurate.

Hi, Marian, I noticed you left flowers for Nettie and she was your GGrandMother. Would you mind if I use her picture on my Ancestry tree. Nettie's maternal grandfather William Holden was my GGUncle. Wanda Darnell

I was wondering if you have any info on where James Edward Knox's parent are buried. Eben Benson and Mary Ann are my GGGreat Grandparents.

FYI I was doing research on Peel's in Taunton MA & found that another member has created a memorial for Donald in the Nevada veterans cemetery. Just to let you know if you wanted to update his family links. Take care, Scott

You're more than welcome.
|Judy Montoya Curbow||John Ham|
Hi Mirian ! It's good to hear from you. I linked John up with his parents as requested. I never seem to have enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I want to work on. I periodically look back on the Hams but never find anything new either. We'll keep plugging along....they can't hide forever ! One thing on my list of "to do" is to actually call Grandview Cemetery to confirm that Joel Ham and his wife are there. We only have that one snippet of information that says they are buried there. I don't know if Mary Curbow ever confirmed this. I will have to ask her.
I hope you and your family are doing well. Best regards, Judy Curbow
|Sue Lombard||RE: Photo - Vasa M. Peel Marker|
I have another photo that shows the length of the gravesite. If you want to send me an email address, I will be glad to forward it to you. There are some pieces of rock or concrete loose on top of the gravesite and the stone is off center, so I don't know if it may have been moved or what, but at least at this point it is still there and readable.
