|Pamela F Hanzaker||Huldah|
I made the correction and transferred the memorial to you.
|Pamela F Hanzaker||Huldah|
I deleted the father for Huldah. Do you know the correct father? Is the other info correct? I received an edit for this memorial a few days ago and added what was suggested. Let me know any updates to make, or I can transfer this memorial to you if you prefer.
|John M. Cowart||Exah Matilda Stephens|
On the previous post I asked for information on grave location for my Great Grandfather's Second wife, Exah Maltida Stephens Cowart.
I had been unable to locate information on-line and after posting the inquiry, I got up off my behind and traveled to the Buchanan City Cemetery.
I quickly located the distinctive grave cover of Johnnie Cowart (d.Jan 2, 1883). This was in the Stephens family plot and there, two graves away, was the burial place of Exah Matilda Stephens. She died November 3, 1882.
Exah Matilda apparently died either in childbirth or shortly afterward, and her infant son Johnnie, died two months later.
Other graves in the Stephens family plot are:
Walter Jenter STephens 1877-1899; John Henry Stephens 1857-1882; Isabelle Hill 1801-1883; Jessie Parks Stephens (Infant son of John Henry) 1880-1880.
All the graves have heavy and thick fired ceranic covers, each shaped very much like a butter dish cover, placed over the grave and in three sections with the name and dates on the front or top piece. (See photos). I had not seen such as this before.
|John M. Cowart||Cowart Family Information|
Thank you for the outstanding job of documenting this valuable information and the work you have done.
I have been searching for information on the second wife of Lewis Grandberry Cowart (son of Nathaniel).
This was Exah Maltida Stephens, previously married to George Doster and residing in Dirt Town, Chatooga County, GA.
Family verbal history said she died in Buchanan, Haralson County, GA in about 1882/3. Her infant son, Johnnie Cowart, is buried in the Buchanan City Cemetery, but I can't find Exah Matilda Cowart or Stephens, or Doster.
Have you come across any information on Lewis Grandberry Cowart's second wife?
Thank you again for your excellent work.
John M. Cowart - Great Grandson of Lewis G. Cowart.
