Obit for Oscar Leroy Watson
7 July 2015
Just tried to leave you a message and it didn't appear, so hope you don't get two. Have you printed out the memorial for Oscar with his obit? I had surgery and then moved household so have not had access to my computer. Hope you have a copy of the obit by now. Bobbye Varner

RE: William Henry McKenzie
I made the statement that he was born in Scotland because I had heard it repeated by family members. I do not have any actual documentation, therefore I should not have recorded it and that sentence should be removed. (Will you make that correction?) I know how important FACTS are and I apologize for the trouble.
Thank you

RE: Birdsong Thornton
Which son is your wife descended from? There is one son none of us have been able to identify based on the 1840 census, his first son was born about 1825. Of course, when the 1850 census came along and he would have been 25 years old and not living at home. I have been able to trace most of Birdsong's children.

Which son is your wife descended from Birdsong?

I have no idea why they moved to Alabama. Randolph County, Alabama and Meriwether County, Georgia are located on the state lines or very close to it. It would be like moving from Meriwether to Heard county, Georgia.

He married Elizabeth Crawford in Putnam County 27 March 1822, Second, he married Mary Elizabeth Crouch 16 Aug 1852. Elizabeth Crawford is on the 1850 Meriwether county census. Everyone assumes that the Mary on the 1870 census is not Mary Elizabeth Crouch, but it's possible she is, based on her ages listed on the 1860 and 1870 census. Both are faded and the 7 year difference is close enough to be a mistake by the census taker or who ever gave the details to the Census taker gave the wrong info.

Until proven wrong, I think they are all the same person - Birdsong-Burdong Thornton. The only records I can find on Birdsong is his two marriages and the 1830 through 1880 census records. So far, I have found nothing to prove who his father is. Nor have I found a thing to indicate his first name is Henry.

At one time, there were 20 different trees on Ancestry showing a different father for Birdsong. One shows Birdsong's father died 10 years before Birdsong was born. Definitely not an easy task to accomplish.

RE: Birdsong/Burdong Thornton
Yea, the kids are the same. Only one I'm not real certain on is the 1870 census being Birdsong, pretty sure it is. But, if memory serves me correctly, I think he has a different wife. At Birdsong's age, not sure the 1870 census children is actually Birdsong's. I'm leaning towards they maybe his step children and they used Thornton as their last name with the census taker. Another thing I'm thinking on those children are they are his grandchildren. Not easy to prove either theory about the children.
