Sherman, Sylvester

Sylvester Edward Sherman

Sylvester Edward Sherman, 58, Capron, Ill., formerly of Portage County, died Tuesday at his home in Capron. He was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Town of Pine Grove.

He operated a salvage business in Capron until retirement in 1970. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Goult-Patterson-Hardell Funeral Chapel, Plainfield. The Rev. Edward Ketchum of Plainfield United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery.

Friends may call today at the funeral chapel. Mr. Sherman married the former Doris Bentley on Sept. 21,1939, at South Bend, Ind., and she is among survivors.

Other survivors include six sons, Edward, Fontana, Cecil, Bancroft, William, Toledo, Ohio, and Frank. John and George, all of Capron; seven daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Beverly) Renner, Janesville, Sandra, Capron, Mrs. Paul (Marjorie) Vincent, Des Plaines, Ill., Mrs. Marshall (Sharon) Jist, Rockford, 111., Mrs. Dale (Yvonne) Wright, Delavan, Mrs. Donald (Diane) Winn., and Debra, both of Des Plaines; 16 grandchildren; two brothers. Henry, Bancroft, and Raleigh. Plainfield, and five sisters. Mrs. Ray (Nora) Pichelman and Mrs. Clara Timm, both of Plainfield, Mrs. Harry (Edith) Hansen, Bancroft, Mrs. Vilas (Jane) Leach, Adams, and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Taylor. Algonquin. Ill.
