In Honor of those who have gone before us 💙|
NONE of us who have been working on the Peter Stephens family tree for more than 25 years will ever accept anything that contradicts or is inconsistent with the information we already have unless it is backed up by photocopies of actual documents or written transcript certified as accurately copied from the original. By certified it means checked by an acknowledged genealogist, historian or specialist who is not related to the people who own the documents.

Our ancestors are watching !
For anyone researching the Peter Stephens family:
One of the better authors and historians is Daniel Bly and he is among us here on findagrave (#48940997). One of his many works is FROM THE RHINE TO THE SHENANDOAH, Volume III (Baltimore, MD 2002), Stephens Chapter, pages 171-183.
Another well documented work is that of Linton E Love. He documents the Rittenhouse family immigrants & descendants in his RITTENHOUSE GENEALOGY CD version 20 March 2005" see page 13. Anyone wishing to learn should have a look at both of these works via Google books; the Rittenhouse work is available for free download in PDF form.
As disrespectful fag members continue to attack Stephens memorials without anything to back it up.
I choose to place here a recent post from author and historian, Daniel Bly, in an effort to clarify. Those we post to, delete them right away.
Here that cannot happen.
RE: Stephens memorials

I am a serious historian and scholar and would be the first to give you and your parents and grandparents credit for finding new information regarding the Stephens family if you only provided details about the source of your information. You could even be famous and probably be given awards if you presented proof that Samuel Stephens and family were in what is now Frederick County, Virginia by 1710 and that he was the father of Peter Stephens, founder of Stephens City as you claim. For 200 years American historians, Virginia historians and family genealogists have claimed that there were no white European living west of the Blue Ridge Mountains before 1728-1730. So that would be a big deal. You get respect by doing an exceptional job and presenting your data in such a way that it proves it beyond a doubt would indeed get the respect you want.
You claim you do not judge others but when you post information on the Stephens site that contradicts what Stephens researchers and genealogists have spent years putting together you disrespect them and judge them wrong. You demand respect but obviously hide behind anonymity. No last names, no places of residence, no email addresses. There is no way to even know if the names you use on here are real. It is hard to respect people who hide who they are and do not take responsibility for their actions.
But I will respect your wish not to hear from me again. I want nothing more to do with you.

Just the other day, I said to my cousin, Lynn, "You know we are so fortunate to have had the parents we had. Some kids grew up without ever having heard a parent say, ""It's the principle of the thing.""
