Bio and Links
Bio Photo Researching is wonderful. One can find so much information. I never thought I would enjoy going to grave yards, but alas, all things are temporal and subject to change except for God.

My goal is to help my children and theirs have much more background about their ancestry than I did.

If I can be of help to you, I will be glad to. I may not get back to you right away, but I will give it my best shot.

If you see anything you know is incorrect, please let me know. I try my best to be honest and accurate, but mistakes happen and not always just on my part.

Happy Hunting

Hi Linda
I am truly sorry for the long delay in answering your 2007 message. The message was on an old site of mine that I did not know existed. Anyway, I am not related to the Martin family. I just leave flowers. Hope you have found your info in the meantime. Best ever, Sarah.

O'Neil & Susan Martin
Phillip Martin ancestor
My name is Susan Martin. My husband is Aaron O'Neil Martin (known as O'Neil). I just started researching my husbands ancestory in 1/08 as a surprise for him. I got bogged down due to the numerous Martins with the same first names and had to tell him what I was up to. Now that WE are doing this instead of just me, things are moving along more and we are pretty (actually very sure) that you are related.

He has been to the cemetary on Fort Jackson, Old Macedonia & what is now the Enon Church on Purcival Road in Columbia, SC. We have portraits of Phillip, Aaron & Mattie, Aaron when he ran for the SC House of Representatives and a few others that are hanging on our living room wall. I will attempt to take photos of them & send them to you although I have not been able to get the camera to cooperate with the computer yet. He also has the crutch that Phillip used to walk back from NY when he was held captive by the yankees. It is hanging on our dining room wall. Phillip, as O'Neil is, was a tall man.

Here is the break down:

O'Neil was born April 7, 1943 and his parents are Woodrow Wilson Martin (1919?-1983?& Thelma Liza Jeffcoat (1921?-?. He was raised by Mattie Alice Martin (his grandmother-Aaron's wife) until her death when he was 6 or 7 years old (according to O'Neil). His Aunt Bessie Mae Martin Davis, Woodrow's sister, then raised him. Woodrow was born approx 1919 & died in approx 1983 in Florida.

Woodrow's parents are Aaron O'Neil Martin & Mattie(not sure if it is spelled with "y" or "ie") Alice (McGill-is her maiden name)Martin. You have this info. Aaron & Mattie are buried in Enon Cemetery on Fort Jackson. From what O'Neil has said, they are the "double" stone off to the side of Phillip.

Aaron's parents are Rev. Phillip Martin & Margaret Martin. You have this info. They are buried in Enon Cemetery on Ft. Jax.

Phillip's father is Joel & I think Phillip's mother is Sarah Jane (Gill) Martin. You provide this info. Joel is buried in Old Macedonia Cemetery.
Joel's parents are Joseph Martin & Joann Rawlinson. You provided this info.

This sight is registO'Neil thinks there might be a cemetery between Old Macedonia and the Enon Cemetery on Percival Road.

Although we are logged in in O'Neil's name, I am the one that checks emails, does the research, etc. He helps me by recalling names (1880 census helped him remember names of several relatives-Narcissus, Agetta & Mariah, the twins,& Booker that I haven't been able to locate as Booker, Brooker, Brooker, Brookert or Bookert.) Please contact us at here or via our email at It said the you are Phillip's ggg grandaught & we could probable help each other further the search for your ancestors.
