RE: John Christiansen
I'm responding via email since it does look like this may be the right family! How exciting!

RE: John Christiansen

Sorry for delay in responding. I don't have any record of John having a son named August Carl. I looked on FindaGrave and saw you have his birth year as 1840. My John and Margaretha had their first known child in 1844 (Ferdinand) so it could be possible there was an earlier son. Margaretha would have been 18. I don't have an exact marriage date for John and Margaretha, though the 1900 census says they were married for 48 years, which would have been 1852 and which could indicate that there may have been a previous wife who had his oldest children (but the date could also be wrong, as census records do contain inaccuracies). Something to look into!

When did August come to America?

RE: John Christiansen
Hi Kim,

I am a descendant of John Christiansen and have done quite a bit of research on him and his other descendants. I have many records - vital records, census records, obituaries, and a short biography on one of their sons (I think it was Frederick but I don't have it quickly at hand at the moment). I also have the passenger list of when they came to America on the Bavaria.

Are you a descendant as well? I'd love to connect and share information.

John Rankin
Hi, Kim!

I went to Glastonbury Town Hall today and looked up cemetery records in town for John Rankin. I was sorry not to be able to locate his cemetery for you. In 1934 a WPA project catalogued all the graves that were recordable in Green Cemetery. John Rankin's name was not recorded. I then turned to Old South Cemetery, but no luck there, either. The final resource they had at Town Hall was for burials between 1898-1986. John Rankin was not listed there.

If you know the era he lived and died in, the only other idea I can offer would be to check the death records at Town Hall.

All the best with your search, Kim!

John Rankin
Hi, Kim!

I found a John E. Rankin today and wanted to show it to you, in case it's the one you were looking for. If not, I can just remove the photo I put up. This was the only John Rankin I saw, and I see that another member had tried before and done a thorough job of it! I did not notice the middle initial until I got home, so I'll be interested to know if this is the grave you were looking for.

All the best,

Photo Request for John Rankin
Hi, I would like to try and fulfill your request. I live in Glastonbury but have limited ability to walk due to arthritis, so I can't promise but there's a good chance I can find the headstone for you. Do you have any idea (give or take 20 years) when Mr. Rankin passed away and/or how old he was? The cemetery is almost perfectly laid out chronologically so knowing an approximate year or even decade of death could help. Please email me at and put Mr. Rankin's name in the subject line. Thanks

Would you like sexton database info? Or do you have that? I noticed you only have a b-date for Anna.

We here in Northwest Oregon will take care of your request. There are about three of us that visit Willamette National on a ragular basis. The rain has kept us away, it has been raining here almost everyday from November thru February 11th. You also have to give it some time to dry out I still came out with muddy shoes but its worth it. I will get up there again but the ten day forcast is all rain so it may not be until March or April.
