RE: Transfer Request # 2568493
A week has now passed since we made this transfer request. You’ve posed a lot of questions about my grandmother’s grandfather and her great-grandfather, questions to which we/I really have no answers. Our major concern right now is preserving the history of the people with whom she had contact, her father. Could you please transfer the maintenance of Joseph Richard Blalack’s memorial to us? It would be most appreciated.

It would be interesting to see what your research about our ancestors in Alabama has produced. We have always assumed that there was some connection to the name “Blaylock.” When I was a child, we liked to say that it used to bed spelled “Blaylock” so that we could have some family connection to Mattie Blaylock, giving us some strange connection to Wyatt Earp. Not only was that notion completely ridiculous, my grandmother dismissed it on the grounds that the name had been spelled “Blalack” for as far back in the family line as she knew. Now of course, my grandmother was born years after the death of her great-grandfather (Richard D Blaylock as you call him). So there exists a possibility that she was unaware or even misled about the spelling of his name. And indeed, at a family reunion, one of my cousins presented quite the Alabama Blaylock family tree with a whirlwind of Richards. The name “Blalack,” however, does show up in Richard D’s generation and in reference to him, at least suggesting the possibility that my grandmother knew what she was talking about. So perhaps, just perhaps, the name change you propose took place a generation earlier.

As far as the spelling of Joseph Richard’s name, to our knowledge, it was always “Blalack.”

I would be happy to discuss these issues further, but right now I am most concerned about my great-grandfather’s memorial. Could you please transfer maintenance of Joseph Richard Blalack’s memorial to us. We would be most grateful.

Dear Mr. Todd,
Apparently, we had a duplicate memorial for Joseph Richard Blalack. You must have had him under a different name (you have “Blalock” in the body of the memorial) because we did not find yours when we searched under the Mesa Cemetery or as a general search. Consequentially, Find-A-Grave deleted our memorial with all the family data it contained and has awarded you the maintenance of the merged memorial. While disappointed by the loss of data, we are okay with you receiving credit for the memorial. That credit does not motivate us. We do, however, ask that you transfer the maintenance of the memorial to us since we are the direct descendants of JR Blalack. I am JR’s great-grandson, and I am working with his surviving grandchildren on the Blalack family history (along with some family notes left behind by JR’s daughter). JR Blalack’s grandchildren are all in their eighties now, so I hope you can understand my sense of urgency.
Thank you.

Stiles Cemetery
Found out today from Steve Stiles that Frank Stiles is the owner of the land on which Stiles Cemetery is located. He is a veterinarian. His telephone number is 512259 5980. His house adjoins that of Steve Stiles. Steve told me to get to the cemetery you have to go through three locked gates, Steve would allow me on his property, but said he would have to have Franks permission before allowing you through his property to that of Frank.

I tried calling Frank, but got a recorded message and no chance to leave a message.

Richard Lewis Moore
Gary, are you a descendant of Richard Lewis Moore? I am a descendant of his brother Edwin. I ask because I am curious if anyone has ever checked the paper microfilms for an obituary for Richard Lewis Moore? Thanks!

If you go to the link I posted a photo of the grave marker

I found this grave marker for what I think is Warren Blalock. The dates are right but the last name is spelled different. If it is not the correct grave let me know and I will remove the photo. Gigi

Josiah Todd's parentage
HI Gary,

DNA evidence suggests that there were two unrelated Todd families in the Bertie/Egdecombe Co area.

Have you ever considered getting a DNA test to prove whether or not Josiah Todd is descended from William Todd d 1769 or from the Thomas Todd/Charity Todd family?
