Raised in Southampton County, VA (Vincents Grove Area) I enjoy helping people find their family. I am NOT related to everyone I add. I do this as a hobby.|

THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

I sent you information on the above, Haven't heard a word from you, did you get the info???
|Winnette||Houke or Hauke|
I transferred two members of this family to you. It seems no one can agree on the spelling. If you are in the Southampton area, perhaps you could get pics and make corrections to these.

Hi, Do you know if a list of the Nat Turner insurrection victims exists? I notice you have added Captain Tom Barrow but did not find any of the other victims in the county. CindyLee

Thank you very much! I am sorry if it turns out to be a lot of work -- maybe just a few at a time would work better for you? I could send individual requests if that turns out to be easier.

I wrote requesting a transfer of this cemetery in April, 2014. I'm not sure if this is just me, but I haven't found any reply. My sister and I have done a lot of work in the cemetery, clearing vines and brush. I have photos I'd like to add, and it would be much easier to add them and other information if the cemetery were transferred.
We are the great-granddaughters of William E Myrick, just in case you are wondering about the connection.
Could you please let me know what you think of this?

He is listed as the son of Joseph Henry & Amelia Corinna Williford. This is incorrect. Their son is Lloyd Vernon Williford Find A Grave# 141723771. North Carolina Birth Indexes list him as the son of Joe Henry Williford and WWII Enlistment Records as the spouse of Ruth Fisher. Could you unlink Lloyd Earl and link Lloyd Vernon? Thanks.
|Dot Harcum||RE: Burgess Cemetery (Conway NC)|
I did not create the Burgess cemetery, but since I'd been there about 2001 and recorded the info from all the graves, I added memorials for ones buried there that the originator of the cemetery had not included.
I do not have the GPS info, but maybe the following will be helpful:
Cemetery is located approximately 3.1 miles west of intersection of Rt 258 & Rt 158 from Murfreesboro to Conway. It is on the left side of Rt 158 (headed to Conway) between houses located at 12606 & 12592. It is back off the road and you have to look carefully to see it, between the houses, addresses indicated above.
Every time I've been by the cemetery, it has been well maintained, grass cut, no weeds, vines, etc; path from road to cemetery, easily assessable.
Hi, I am the great grandaughter of Lillian Ann Joyner Kitchen 57866784 and Willie Lee Kitchen.
On her memorial page I don't see you have my grandpa, James Kitchen, listed. He was their only child.
Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 is when he passed away.
He suffered from an onset of dementia and my dad said he once broke down crying because he went into a spell asking for his mommy. It stills breaks my heart to this day that my grandpa had to relive his mothers death over again before dying. I am brought to tears literally every single time I think of that incident.
It would truly mean a lot to me if you could list my grandfather, James Kitchen as Lillian Ann Joyner Kitchen's son with Willie.

Hello, first I need to say thank you helping me with locating the Myrick Cemetery. My husband, sister and I finally made it to the site today (only with your help, and Google Earth!). We spent a couple of hours clearing some more vines, and hope to continue with some maintenance.
I am wondering if there is a way that you would consider transferring either the entire cemetery to me, or if not then at least my most direct ancestors? We feel very connected to these people, and it (from the condition of the cemetery) seems that there are not many Myricks around.
In any event I want to thank you once again for all your help in locating this cemetery. Not easy to see, with all the green growth.

I am requesting a transfer of this memorial #34615968. He was a very close cousin. If not please link him to his father please, Melvin Wade Sheeley, #124049862. My Find A Grave member number is 48013311. Thank you very much for your consideration. Sincerely Terry L. Board.
