|Roy Wilson||Mrs C Blondin-Robiolio|
I wonder if you can shed some light on an historical mystery for me?
I am writing a book on the history of the English Toy Terrier (formerly called Miniature Black & Tan Terrier. One of our earlier breeders was the lady in the subject title.
Two of the first dogs that she bred and named was "The Hero of Niagra" and "Ropewalker" which led me to suppose that she was married to Blondin as she used his name. This has led me into an interesting web research on Charles Blondin - what a man - but rather puzzled as he is shown as being married twice, his first Charlotte dying in 1888, and the second, named as Katherine dying in 1901. As he himself predeceased her in 1897 I am at a loss to explain how Mrs C Blondin Robiolio came to be married to him. I also have a marriage report from the New York Times dated London Nov 29 giving his marriage to Catherine James the previous day - this could be her.
Now I am wondering if you have any knowledge of this? Did Blondin divorce Katherine and marry Catherine James a couple of years before his death? - the report does say that the bride is many years the junior of her husband. If so I would assume that she also remarried and added the Blondin to husband Robiolio.
Sorry if this has been a bit longwinded, but I would appreciate any insight that you have.
Yours gratefully, Roy Wilson
