Lola Caudill
Hi, there is a mis-type in the mention of Lola's 2 husbands. She was the 2nd wife of Dolph Caudill, not Boyd Caudill. I'm Dolph Caudill's granddaughter and Lola was my step-grandma. Thank you!

I'm sorry this is so long. I tried to send an email, but it was bounced back as invalid...

Hi, I’m hoping that you are related to John Calloway Clark and can help me. I have researched this line fairly extensively and my records show the following:

James Monroe Clark Sr. married Rebecca Witt in Lee Co, Virginia on 12-4-1856. This is verified by Virginia Marriage Records. He then married Mary Elizabeth Rice, also in Virginia, in 1868 according to the marriage records that I’ve been able to find. The 1900 census indicates that they were married for 35 years (which would equate to somewhere around 1865). It shows that his wife had 10 children, 9 of whom were living in 1900. Based on the number of children, I think the marriage date of 1868 could be a transcription error. The following would support a marriage date of 1865 and 10 children…

Rebecca Witt:

Alpha Elizabeth Clark (1859-1940)
Ann Katherine Clark (1860-1930)
James Monroe Clark Jr (1862-1939)
John Calloway Clark (1863-1945)

And the following with Mary Elizabeth Rice:

Rebecca Jane Clark (1865-1958) – This is where my line is related
Nancy Arminta Clark (1867-1946)
Susan Ann Clark (1869-1943)
Samuel Henry Clark (1871-1947)
Jemima Alifair Clark (1873-1924)
Charity Mary Clark (1875-1948)
Martha Ida Clark (1877-1949)
Flora Adaline Clark (1879-?) My guess is that this is the child that died before the 1900 census
Celia M Clark (1881-
Juda Isabelle Clark (1883-1954)

So, this is a very long way of asking how sure you are that John Calloway Clark’s mother was Mary Elizabeth Rice, because it seems to me that evidence points to Rebecca Witt as being his mother.

I appreciate whatever insight you can provide. Thanks and have a great day.
