My grandfather was from Ontario, Canada. He came to Kentucky in the 1890s. Thirteen years ago, I did a google search on my last name and found a genealogy researcher in Canada that turned out to be my 4th cousin. We exchanged information and that's what got me started doing family research.
|Francie Ede||RE: Awesome Researcher!|
I spent a lot of time at libraries looking up obits and made friends while doing so. Several friends have given me their collections to put online to help other researchers.
I put together 4 Access databases that I'm working out of. There are over 40,000 obits (and growing) in these databases. It would be so much easier to donate the databases to a group such as Ancestry instead of having to add the obits individually to Find A Grave memorials but I wouldn't want them to charge for them.
When I started the project it was real easy to do queries from my databases to make spreadsheets to create my own memorials. Then I would go back and copy & paste the obits to the memorials. While I was busy building the databases, other people were busy inventorying the cemeteries. Now I find that others have already put most of the memorials on there.
It's a lot more work to get others to add information to their memorials. Most people will cooperate, but there are a few out there that will change the information that I give them or won't cooperate at all. What starts out as a volunteer project then becomes a job. For this reason, I have to be careful that I don't get burned out over it.
Thanks for your encouragement. That keeps me going.

|JusticeForTheInnocent||RE: Simon Partington|
I found it in a newpaper article which was written about him.
I thought after I saw your memorial, and read the comments you made about your lucky escape that I would see what I could find =)
Simons burial place is, Gethsemane Catholic Church, Near Surrey. Rev Paul Foran conducted the service.
Hope this helps you a little.
