joshua W. Shelby
Philadelphia Church Cemetery, Greenfield, Hancock County, IN. Information:He was b 6-16-1815, son Jos. Shelby & Eliz. Williams. D. 1-5-1889. Husband of Nancy Shelby, same cemetery. She b 10-4-1813 and d 5-11-1889. Joshua was a grandson of Joshua Shelby, Revolutionary War patriot. Joshua W. Shelby wentto Sugar Creek Township, Hancock County, Indiana, in 1835. He served as a trustee and justice of the peace in his township for six years, two in the former role and four in the latter. He was elected sheriff in 1852 and resigned after serving thirteen months. He said that he had resigned for the more congenial and healthful pursuit of agriculture. He was known as a fearless and staunch democrat but was elected to office as a whig candidate. He was an early pioneer in the wild woods of early Buck Creek Township and, as such, endured many privations and hardships. [See: J.H. Binford. HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY, INDIANA. this is not Ediths father. Her father is buried in Oak hill cemetery along side his wife Etta Parr. This is actually a uncle of Joshua Willard Shelby. He was born June 13, 1815 to Joseph and Mary Shelby. He married Nancy Dunn in Dec. of 1839. He died January 7, 1889. Wife Nancy is buried there also and shares the headstone.

Do you have any plans to fill in any more information on the memorials you've created in the Philadelphia Cemetery in Hancock County, Indiana? Your message says that you were going to do it, but that was 6 or 7 years ago. With the majority of your dates showing "unknown" and no one linked together, how are we supposed to tell who these people are?
