Bio and Links
Bio Photo We've been vacationing in this lovely area of southeast Wisconsin since I was a teenager, and then 10 years ago, my husband and I decided to relocate here near beautiful Geneva Lake. I've fallen in love with this countryside, it's turned this suburbanite into a confirmed country girl.
I'm researching Walworth County, Wisconsin, which is here in the southeastern part of Wisconsin, bordering on Illinois. I enjoy local history and find our country cemeteries fascinating and informative. I love doing research on the memorials I photograph, and if anyone has any requests for particular family research, I'd be happy to to help find your relatives for you here in Walworth County or nearby.
As for family: my late father had done a pretty thorough job of researching his side of our family, so I had a lot to go on when I began my family tree. The names are Cooper/Davis/McCammon/Bates/Gentry and the areas are Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Mississippi, and Missouri.
My mother was born in Sweden, and I'm still struggling with her side of the family, I'm not at all fluid in Swedish, I heard it growing up at my Swedish relatives homes, but I saw little written Swedish as a child. I've found some interesting information though, with thanks to a Swedish "cousin" who is on Ancestry and who was looking for a relative who turned out to be from my maternal grandfather's family.
I've come a long way in years and miles from that little girl in my picture, and the trip has been like most one of winding roads, forked roads, clear skies, and thunderstorms - and I wouldn't trade the voyage for anything.
What I've found, though, is that looking back, as we do here on FAG, searching out not only our own but others' histories - and the histories of our towns and how and why we got here- it helps make this wonderful thing called life even more full and fascinating to me.
I'm delighted to be sharing this 'hobby' of research and photography with such a great group of people here at FAG, and I look forward to getting to know as many of you as I can.

Sylvester Smith
My daughter and I were able to get a picture of Slyvester Smith's grave site. He was buried with Diana Ward Smith, Mary E Smith and Willard H Smith. I believe the last two might have been his children.

Pauline Bates Brown
Hi Paula,
I wrote the chapter about your grandmother Pauline Bates Brown in the book "Skirting Traditions." I hope you have seen the book. Now I am starting work on another project about her, and I am interested in what you can add about her to my research. I can be contacted at

Cyrus Church
Hi Barb,
I just read your message that you might be able to search for people's ancestors in the Walworth, Wisconsin area.
Cyrus Church was my great-great grandfather. I would love to connect with any of his other descendants. According to the Arcadia Publishing book on Walworth, Cyrus does have descendants in the area.
Many thanks if you can help.

Boyd Cemetery
I live in Wise County Texas. If you need anything else, just let me know. Most of the cemetery pictures and information can be found at and the county has a lot of other information available on that site besides the cemeteries... I also go to Tarrant County quite a bit. Just let me know if I can help!!

your Ggrandfather
RE: 92479455

Was this man the same Thomas A. Bates, of Co "K", 13th Mississippi Infantry, during the Civil War.

Per the Confederate Veteran Magazine,1925, this man's grandson, William Pearce, reported it so.

Do you agree?

RE: William Traver in Cobblestone #136218719
Well, it's time to find the children!! I'm sure the Traver family will enjoy seeing the memorials. That's good humor you've made, not rudeness. Heehee. Now, to be really rude, I've put a note in the Bio that the inscription doesn't match the dates of his birth and death in the date Bio. :)
