Bio and Links
Bio Photo My interest is in getting the local cemeteries catalogued, photographed, and listed on this site, with family links posted whenever possible. I'm especially eager to get photos of those headstones that are in danger of disappearing due to weather, neglect, or vandalism

If you notice errors on my submissions, please send me the corrections and I'll make them as soon as possible. If I manage a memorial for one of your relatives and you'd prefer to manage it yourself, let me know and I'll gladly turn it over to you. The only ones I won't transfer are my direct relatives.

I work full-time, but I'm happy to take photos on weekends when I can.

Please don't be offended if I ask for proof on edit requests. I strive to keep the memorials as accurate as possible.

If you're requesting a transfer or adding information to a memorial, please use the EDIT tab on the memorial to send me the request/information. It makes it much easier to find which memorial you're talking about. Thank you.

RE: Ella Brister Morris in Hepzibah
Dear Barbara:

Here is the information that leads me to believe Ella’s maiden name was Jones, and that her first husband was Mr. Brister (probably Emmitt Ray Brister) and her second husband was Roland Winston Morris. In the below I have capitalized the specific words that l think are important.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find information on Ella’s parents.

What do you think?

Ed

- The obituary for daughter Lois Jeanette (Morris) Rogers says she was the daughter of Roland W. Morris and Ella JONES Morris.

- The obituary for Roland Winston Morris says he was survived by a STEP-SON, Lawrence BRISTER of Pascagoula.

- In her book George and Elizabeth (Till?) Burkett and Descendants, my late sister Mary Jane “Sam” Burkett Caruso says, “Roland Winston ‘Bud’ Morris, b. 24 Oct 1883, d. 29 Sep 1950, buried Jessie Bryant Cemetery, m 6 Aug 1921 Ella JONES Brister.” However, it’s unclear if Sam thought her maiden name was Jones or Brister.

- On Ancestry.com, the John Phillips & Ramona Allen family tree database by John L. Phillips says Emmitt Ray Brister married Ella JONES. Here is the information John has on Emmitt:

“When Emmitt Ray Brister was born on October 30, 1894, in Mississippi, his father, Charles, was 20 and his mother, Beatrice, was 20. He had three brothers and two sisters. He died on June 5, 1918, at the age of 23, and was buried in Oak Vale, Mississippi.”

Unfortunately, the only information John shows for Ella Jones is her name. Other Ancestry.com databases include Emmitt (Emmett) but none show a wife for him.

Emmitt’s World War I draft registration card says he is married and his wife is a dependent, but it doesn’t identify her.

- The Mississippi Marriages, 1776-1935 database on Ancestry.com shows MRS. Ella BRISTER married R. W. Morris on 2 Aug 1921 in Covington County.

- The 1920 census for Beat 5, Lawrence Co., Mississippi lists Ella BRISTER, age 24, born Mississippi, head of household, WIDOW, with a son, LAWRENCE BRISTER, age 2-5/12. (Refer back to Roland’s obituary for the significance.)

- The 1930 census for Beat 5, Lawrence Co., Mississippi lists:
Morris, R. W. Head
-------- Ella J. wife
Brister, Lawrence son [Brister is lined through]
Morris, Richard son [Morris is lined through]
--------, Jeanette daughter

It looks like the enumerator was given Lawrence Brister’s name as the older child (age 12) and then lined through the Brister but incorrectly listed him as Roland’s son instead of stepson, and then listed Richard (age 7) and Jeanette (age 3) as Roland’s children. If done correctly Lawrence Brister would have been listed last, as Roland’s stepson. At least, that is my guess!

RE: Gaspard Toups at Holy Rosary
Gaspard TOUPS {@TUPS] [cf. KITTELERE] [Friderique and Marie Barbe STRIMPHEL], b. Mar. 27, 1755, bn. Mar. 25, 1755, s. Gasard TOUPS and Charlotte SORELLE. [SCB, B1, 93]Volume 2, P. 266 Archdiocese of New Orleans Scarmental Records.

I have a copy of THE GERMAN COAST by Glenn R Conrad which is Abstracts of the Civil Records of St. Charles and St. John the Baptist Parishes 1804-1812. NO. 16, 10-10-1805 TESTAMENT. Gaspard Toups drew up his last will and restament. He stated that he was a native of St. Charles Parish, the legitimate child of the late Frederic Toups and the late Anne Barbe Striffle. He declared that he was married to the late Genevieve Haydel by whom he had eight children, namely: Ambroise [17], Drosin [15], Telespfort [13], Genevieve [12], Adelaide, Melanie, Radevine, Eleonore. Toups futher stated that he owed his nephew and Pupil, George Toups, the sum of $50, due him from his pal inheritance. He named George Toups to be tutor of his children.

I have more information, but this I hope would be enough. Let me know what you think.

Thank you so much for all you do, it is greatly apprecated.

RE: Gaspard Toups at Holy Rosary
I have 19 Volumes of Archdiocese of New Orleans Sacramental Records. I also have "St. Charles Parish Abstracts" by Glenn R. cONRAD 1700-1803, "The Geman Coast" 1804-1812 by Glenn R Conrad " German Coast Families by Albert Robicheaux. I have 22 Volumes of Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records. I have Birth Baptism, Marriage, and Death Records 1861-1872 from St, John Baptist and St. Charles Parish, La.

I know I have made a few mistakes and I don't mind being corrected, my source is :

Gaspard Toups [ Frderique and Marie Barbe Strimphel], bapt. Mar. 27, 1755, born Mar. 25, 1755, sponsors were Gaspard TOUPS AND Charlotte Sorelle [SCB, B1, 93] Volume 2, page 266 Archdiocese of New Orleans Sacramental Records.

SCB stands for St. Charles Borremeo Church, Destrehan, La. Back then it was known as the Little Red Church.

His father's full name was Jean Frederick Toups and his mother was Anna Barbara Strimphel.

In the Book St. Charles Parish Acts German Coast written by Glenn R. Conrad No 16, Oct 10 1805 Gaspard Toups drew his last Will and Testament states he lives in St. Charles, list all of his children etc.

I hope this is what you need.

Gaspard's daughter Melanie Toups was my ggggg-grandmother.
