I started researching my family (Benton-Constantine-Dugas-Mouton) back in 1987 in the pre-computer genealogy days, So, most of my research remains on paper. After a 15 year break, I'm gradually getting info digitized, but it will be a while before All my entries and grave photos will find its way onto this platform. |
I have several Louisiana Benton family photos. My grave photos were primarily taken by two cousins I am working with on that family Surname. I do need to get hold of Benton pics from the Florence / Darlington / Williamsburg County areas regarding the Simeon T. Benton Clan if someone can help.
My Dugas / Mouton Families arrived in Nova Scotia in the 16th and 17th centuries and were part of the Acadian Exile by the English. Families were split up, some were never reunited. Several died at sea during the brutal English transport. Survivors were taken to
France, England, the Dominican Islands, or various East Coast ports where they were placed into indentured service for years. Eventually with help from the Spanish who governed the area in the 1750s-1780s, Louisiana became a place of reunion for those that had remained scattered after being forced to leave all they knew as home.
The Constantines, although it seems some arrived in the Quebec, Canada area, most of my relatives seem to have come directly from France to New Orleans and later to Acadiana in the late 18th or early 19th centuries. The name will also be seen as Constantin after their arrival in Louisiana.

|Kerrie Skerrett||Benton Family in Louisiana|
I am the granddaughter of Verna Benton Barrilleaux. She is the daughter of Overton Benton. He is one of the sons of William Benton, who is the son of Hampton Benton, Sr. So, I guess that makes me the great-great-great-great granddaughter of Hampton, Sr. My grandmother passed away this week and I have been obsessively researching her family history to fill in the pieces that are missing from what we already know. I came across your name several times on Find A Grave and am curious about your connection to the Benton family. It would be exciting to meet a long lost cousin. Thank you for all of your contributions. It's been exciting to learn more about the Benton family.

Pictures have been added.
Yes, go ahead and have a copy. If you know where Mathilda Bonin Figueron, daughter of Louis Bonin and Emilie/Amelie Constantin Bonin are buried, please let me know. I'd like to add her photo to her memorial and connect her to her parents. See the message above yours on my page.
Which of my pictures in particular are you interested in and how are they related to you? I've very few pics of my great-grandmother Clara Lucille Bonin Simon. I do not have any of Constantin family.

I looked for a private message address for you and didn't find one.
It is my understanding that Mary King LINK HUMPHRIES was indeed a sister to Sarah "Sallie" LINK GENTRY. Both are daughters of Byrd B. and Nancy BUCHANAN LINK.
I looked for a way to link them as sisters when I made the memorials, but did not find a way.
The two named above had several other siblings.
If you need documentation, I could possibly put my fingers on it and add it to the bios.
I took the pictures in 2001 when visiting Person County. There were many that I missed. If I can assist you further, please let me know.
Yes, you have my permission to use the photo. Please use this line:

Thank you very much for being considerate in asking if you could use the photo.

Thanks, my memorial is older than the duplicate. Tell them to remove theirs.

I have transferred the Bentons to you. I only managed six. If you find other memorials that I have and you would like just let me know.

You are right about the church names --I need to be careful to keep them straight. I am not related to Bentons or Mires. My husband has family both at Carencro & Scott. His relatives are mostly Babineaux. I decided to take pictures of the entire cemeteries for Find a Grave but since I get to Louisiana just once a year I'm only about half done at Scott. I've done all of St. Peter at Carencro except the Mausoleum.
