Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired Tech Lab teacher in middle school.
I enjoy genealogy and creating photo album pages of grandkids. I especially enjoy taking pictures of headstones. Cemeteries are lovely, peaceful and quiet.

PLEASE use the edit button to request transfers and make changes/additions to memorials.
Thank you.

Also, since I take a large number of cemstone photos, it is time prohibitive to clean them, especially the older ones, before taking a pic. I will be glad to retake any photos upon request.

AND, I would really appreciate any email communication to include the memorial numbers of the person(s) to whom you are referring. It is so time consuming (and open to error) to find names using the search tool.

Pecenka Cemetery
Hi Mae! I'd first like to thank you for your amazing work on listing several grave sites from the Pecenka Cemetery in Marshall County, Kansas on this website. I actually visited this cemetery for the first time yesterday in search of some of my ancestors. I ran across this website yesterday during my searches. As you will see, this email has some suggestions to be made, and I apologize for not using the edit button, but I have some questions that I hope you might have the answers to as well. My great, great, great grandmother, Katerina Kusyho, has two other family members inscribed with her on her headstone. The cemetery was recently vandalized and her headstone is laying on the ground so I can not tell you for sure which side the other two members are on (you wrote that on this site). One side is Franc. Benda, my great, great grandfather and on the other side is Marie Benda, Franc.'s daughter and Katerina's granddaughter. I have a picture of Marie's side of the headstone I can send to you. It is Marie Benda that I am writing to you about. On this website, you have actually combined her information with her mother's information, Mary Marica Kusy Benda- who we are desperately trying to locate. You have Marie Benda listed on here as "Marie Marica Kusy Benda", Kusy should not be apart of Marie's name, Kusy is her mother's maiden name. Also, you have Marie's birth year listed on this site as 1864, that is actually Mary (her mother's) birth year. Marie was born in 1883 and was only 14 months old when she died. You have her death year correct, but her place of death you have listed as Topeka, that was again, her mother Mary's death place. We have been looking for Mary Marica Kusy Benda for several years and our elderly family members say she's in an unmarked grave in Pecenka. We have hit a brick wall in our searches. Some how you have some of her information so I'm hoping you know where Mary Marica Kusy Benda might be buried. Any information you can share about her would mean so much to my family and I. Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your hard work in listing so much information for so many people. ~Laurie Benda Paige

Cottonwood Cemetery
Hi Mae, I am pleasantly surprised you've come up with more photos for Cottonwood Cemetery! Awhile back I ran across a transcript for the cemetery, and it was all messed up. It appeared that someone had gotten "off" a line for some of the info, like a 6 month old being the wife of so and so, and it was really hard to tell the right dates/family connections. You are doing a great job "fixing" what I screwed up! Becky

Fruitland Cem
Mae, Thank you for your information. I have been thru Fruitland Cem many many times when I was a kid. There is a Doyle family there that was my Great Grandfathers family. Sometime before the Civil War mine changed the spelling to Doile. My Grandmother used to want us to take her out there. I remember seeing the Yeakley stones and I knew they were part of my mothers family. My grandmother died when I was 14 but boy, she had people in just about every cemetery around. Hardford Cem was another big one for her. lol
Needless to say they were in Emporia before it was Lyon Co. Beckinridge or something like that was the county back then. Thank you again.

RE: Smiths at Pleasant Hill Cemetery
Mae, I think you are right on the Pleasant Hill cemetery. I will check with my Mom to verify but I have some others there and I think it should of been Pleasant Hill and not cottage hill....Thanks for noticing that. I remember their graves were by a tree when I went there and Cottage Hill only has one.

RE: Smiths at Pleasant Hill Cemetery
Thank you Mae the memorial # for Mary is 130167235 and the memorial for "marion" is actually Mahlon and I am already the custodian of his memorial site. The one you have Marion #130167209 Sorry for the confusion but I didn't pay close enough attention when I looked at the one you have. My Great Grandfather Mahlon's memorial number is #127228002 if you would like to verify. Thank you so much and sorry for the confusion as the grave markers are in terrible shape and I hope to get them better ones.

Smith's at Pleasant Hill cemetary
Hello Mae

First thank you for your memorial of my Great Grandparents Marion and Mary Smith. I was wondering if you would be interested in transferring management of their wall to myself? I am trying to pool family together to get them a new Headstone as I was sad when I visited their sight and saw the condition of their stones. The are my Grandmothers Grandparents on my Mom's side and I have a lot of information I could add. Anyway, thank you for your time

Hello!

Thank you for your message. No problem. Hopefully I haven't totally overloaded you with edit approvals. I've been "back filling" information from my Ancestry.com tree into Find A Grave to give a more complete picture of my relatives long past. If a last name is Brabb-Hooper-Meinhardt-Miller-Morgan-Peterson and lived in the Alta Vista-Council Grove-Dunlap area, then I'm probably related. Have a nice week!

Best regards,
Justin

RE: 67341954 Hazel Holman Johnson
Hello Mae,

I know of Holley and Kate thru my grandmother and aunt Merita, but all that I know of Harold is thru census records. I am sure that Harold and Hazel were husband and wife from census. I am having trouble getting Peter and Emma Holman in as Hazel's parents. Peter is # 67340599.

Mae, I want to thank you again for all the wonderful work that you have done and are doing on Find A Grave!!! I tell people how some of the volunteers go for quanty but you delivery quality information and wonderful pics. May God Bless you!

RE: 161878295 Georgiana Watson
Hi Mae, when I sent it I didn't know the dates, then Dennis went to the library and found the obit and sent you the dates! I am sorry for that confusion! I think her name was Georgana without an "i." Hope this solves it. I still don't know that the father is buried in MML but I can't prove that he is at Cottonwood with the wife and daughter, though. At least now there is a record of him. I'm still "collecting" records on Civil War soldiers, if you run across any, and have started to save former slaves in a virtual cemetery, too. Thanks for all your help!!! Becky
