Bio and Links
Bio Photo My interest in genealogy began 66 years ago when I listened to my mother and grandmother trace relationships of their friends and family.

As a Find A Grave photo volunteer for Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery, I sometimes stumble over a neglected or forgotten grave marker. I add information or create memorials for the lives I discover in this way.

I've lived in Portland since 1985. Do not presume to lecture me on the city of today or yesterday, the history or current status of Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery.

If you have rules and procedures and requirements for memorials and photos, don't expect me to follow them. As far as cleaning headstones? Don't be silly. I clean off the bird ****, wipe the dust, pull the weeds, rinse the mud. What good is a photo where the name can't be seen or the dates visible?

Use the "edit" tab to request additions, changes, transfers. Do not burden me with the task of searching for the memorial.

Thank you ever so much for Laura's headstone photo. It looks like you had to kind of uncover it, and thank you for that. Wow, it is so said when you see headstones like this, as you wonder what happened to family members or themselves. Thank you for the extra effort on this, and for what you do with findagrave.com. God's Blessings to you, Alvin

Thank you. I suspect someone entered her erroneously. I'll try to contact the memorial manager to remove it.

RE: Alice Davidson in Lone Fir
Hi Linda,

Rest assured I never-ever judge a family from the from the lack of a headstone. I think many times wooden grave markers were used and of course they rot in our Oregon weather. Perhaps good intentions also never came to fruition.

Some cemeteries around this area have gone through and headstoned unmarked graves with inexpensive stone/cement stones which is a sensible thing to do.

M goal is just to find lost loved ones and reconnect them with their family.

Thanks for your help. You're a sweetie.

Jane

RE: Alice Davidson in Lone Fir
Thank you Linda for finding the grave sites for Alice and her family. I could tell you went to some effort to clean off the headstones and determine the plots of all the individuals in the row. I wondered if you found the plot locations from a cemetery official or from another definitive resource, as I understand that unmarked graves can be difficult to locate. (Perhaps you can share your problem solving approach with me. Nonetheless I always wonder why family members don't mark their loved ones graves. I find it disconcerting. - Jane

RE: Mary Buchtel
I would love to see Samuel's obit as I couldn't find it in the Oregonian. I was assuming that she died after Samuel because she is mentioned in her daughters obit. It gets confusing that there were two Mary's :)

Is it possible to get a text copy of the obit?

Thanks for all of the help

Mark

RE: Mary Buchtel
Thanks, but Mary was still alive when her daughter died in 1907, so that couldn't be her.
