Bio and Links
Bio Photo I love Find A Grave. It's like Facebook for the dead. A heartfelt thanks to all the Find A Grave photographers who've fulfilled my requests for headstone pictures, and to the others of you who've generously transferred your pages to me. I'm grateful for and enjoy the friendships, camaraderie, assistance and humor that passes between and among us. You've filled missing gaps, corrected errors, and answered numerous questions. My family thanks you too, as this is really a gift to them.
In Memoriam:
"With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey", died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in... and then the trouble started."
Note: Sorry, sometimes I just can't stop myself… Catherine
What calls us to find the ancestors? It goes beyond a simple curiosity. We are taken over, compelled, as if possessed by something bigger than us that is begging to be revealed. There is one of us in almost every family called to be the scribe. I am but one of many in our clan's long line of storytellers. Like others, I'm called to gather and assemble the ancestors, to breathe life into them again as far back as we can reach. We take what we find and chronicle the facts of their existence, remembering their names, who they were, and what they did. They are the sum of who we are. Without them, we would not exist. We greet those who came before us, restoring their place in line. We scribe their stories and their histories. We search for them in public libraries, county records, and weed-filled or well-kept cemeteries. We comb through yellowed newspapers, family archives, lovely old letters and photo albums. We find them! And in finding them, we find ourselves.
Catherine (Clemens) Sevenau, Sep 2009
Note: Inspired by "We Are the Chosen" written by Della M. Cumming, ca 1943.
My brother and I are researching our family lines—he for years—I of late. Compiling four volumes, our records span from the sailings to America to our parent's generation. Our main lines:

Henry HOY, Jr. & Mary Ann SMITH
Finley McLaren CHAMBERLIN & Emily S. HOY
Mathew Sylvester CLEMENS & Barbara NIGON

Always happy to connect with kin and fellow researchers to compare notes. It takes a village. Other than a handful of close friends, I'm related directly, in parallel, or by marriage to every person for whom I hold a Find A Grave page, though some more distantly than others.

Anyone who fulfilled headstone requests and transferred me pages prior to Jan 2013 and have not heard back from me, please don't think me ungrateful or thoughtless; my hard drive crashed and I lost 9,000 emails of genealogy correspondence. Arrghh.

I'm aware I have a number of non-compliant "Burial Unknown" and am doing my best to convert them as they get entered by others by moving information over and deleting my page. I've entered them to link the family through the generations in hopes a burial location will found at some point.
I've thought about this: obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told how the person died.
In 2013, I published "Passages from Behind These Doors, A Family Memoir," and recently published my second book, "Queen Bee, Reflections on Life and Other Rude Awakenings." There are many stories of the family in both. Do a search for SEVENAU, you'll find it! I also publish a weekly blog.
NOTE: If you email me and are not already in my address book, the first time out you'll get caught in my spam. Relax. I'll see your message and move it to my inbox. No need to fill out the code or get cranky and send me a crabby message.

I'd be happy to add or correct information for which you provide "source and documentation that proves the update" per findagrave guidelines. Thanks very much.

Thanks very much for your suggested edits to our Downs ancestors. Can you please provide the support for the birth date, and birth and death locations? I haven't been able to find any evidence for these data and would be happy to know the source. Thanks.

Can you tell me which man in the photo is John Freeman McKay? I would just love to be sure, he is my great-great-grandfather.

RE: John and James Chatfield and Charlotte Hinsdale
You're welcome. Hinsdales are on the way. I will send you scans of their lot cards I am using. They are interesting. Two unmarked Civil War soldiers was disappointing. I don't know why federally provided stones were not obtained. Your praise is raise enough for me. Thanks, Bob Lerch

RE: Moses Bomberger headstone photo
I am loading from my iphone which is showing me everything correctly on the app. On my laptop it is sideways but indicates photo is scaled and to click onto the picture for correct photo imagine. I have used a photo editor and reloaded new images. Hopefully they will be correctly loaded for viewing without clicking onto the photo first.

RE: Sherman & Ethel Callaway
You can keep them. Most of my entries are because I needed a memorial to post my gravestone photo. I am not related.
