I live in the Carytown section of Richmond, Virginia, USA. I grave the area of New Jersey to Georgia, but mostly around Virginia, looking for lost or forgotten cemeteries. And often while walking those cemeteries I'll see some neglected or damaged or sinking markers, so I tidy them up, and sometimes get more involved, then take a picture and post it, feeling like I might be their last best chance to be remembered for some future researcher. We all have the same purpose, we're all working for posterity, and I think this data base has become a number-one stop for any family history researcher.|
I'm a U.S. Navy veteran, Vietnam era, duty aboard the USS Canopus AS-34. I raised a family, but lost my wife. I made a career in newspaper production, am now retired, and enjoy volunteer gravestone photography. The best way I've found to get a readable gravestone photo is to redirect sunlight to create shadows in the carved surface.
One thing, I'd like to ask the community at large, is quit cropping photos... it makes a perfectly normal photo look a lot less attractive. Please post natural photos.
Anyone who wants to use my photos may do so, without any restriction, so help yourself. They have been posted here for you to use. And if you want a transfer, simply ask for it.

|Fred Sanford||Re: Mr. Roach @ Cedar Hill|
FYI - at his death there were 2 large public mausoleums, each named uniquely. Today there's a 3rd. I know each well and I know what one he is in. Your request for specific photos present a challenge for other reasons which I may or may not be able to do for several reasons...I'll be in touch.

|Ancestry/searcher||RE: Memorial Park ~ Linwood Orange|
Hello Rich, You are very welcome. A BIG thank you for having the exact grave locations for Mr. and Mrs. Orange. That helped out SO much - Memorial is a huge cemetery and very spread out. And also, thank you for your kind comments. We want to fulfill photo requests with pictures that we, ourselves, would want posted to our family tree. With a surrounding area photo, we want people to feel like they've been at the grave site in person.
If you would like any additional photos, please don't hesitate to ask.
Paula and Doug Smith
