I currently reside in Gurdon, AR. I now suffer from poor health and don't have the stamina to walk around cemeteries too often anymore. But I'm still doing research on my own family and historical events (like the New London disaster) that touched my heart. |
I firmly believe that no one, no matter how "minor" he or she may have been, should EVER be forgotten.
Some of my close relatives:
Nelva Jean Shepherd
W. O. Beene
F. L. Shepherd
My young friend:
If you have any additional information on any of the people whom I have added, or would like me to take down any of the people whom I do have so you can add that person yourself (no one knows family better than family!) please let me know. I will be happy to comply with your requests.
Thank you to everyone who has left flowers for my family and the others I have added. I appreciate your remembrance of them, and I'm sure they would appreciate it, too.

Thank you for getting back to me. Interestingly enough, one person said I couldn't use Find A Grave as a source, and another said I could. I can see why the links shouldn't be used as proof, but a photo of the grave marker? When it includes her maiden name, no less? I was dumbfounded because I dont know their rules and regs. Meanwhile, thanks again!

Ira Terrell Key and Florence Myrtle Clower Key are my great grandparents. They are in my line all the way up to a Revolutionary War Soldier. I would like your permission to use the photos you took of their grave markers to help document their existence in my DAR application. (Heck if I know that it would help, but maybe.)
May I please download the photos you took of Ira and Flo's markers to use for my personal benefit? Personal file at home and a National DAR Application?
Thank you for your consideration.

Another research is saying Twyla,or Twilia, could be their sister, however as I said the book and a few news articles are saying she isn't

Doing research, and reading the book Gone At 3:17, Twilia is not the sister of James Henry Philips and Virgil B. Philips, James and Virgil's sister is Camilla, who survived.

Hey Christie Thank you for the work you do. I am asking about the three Smith children, my cousins who were killed in school exploison 1937. Abner Lavelle was the boy- If the graves are not marked how would one know where they are buried? Where would one put a marker with their name- This is the wish of the aging only sibling, a brother born soon after the explosion. Thank you so much. If you have any contact info for the cemetery I will call. I live in MS but have been to the museum in New London.

Thank you for documenting my grandmother's neice's burial and the information you listed. Her name is Ruby Reed and she died in the New London School Explosion in 1937. My grandparents, Charles R. and Allie B. Sory were teaching there that day also. They had taken in Ruby and were raising her at the time of the accident. So very tragic and changed their lives forever.
I'm sorry to hear of your poor health and hope you are better soon. Once again, her family thanks you for your time and concern for those who have passed on. May God bless you!

By a strange coincidence, this story was being told on Modern Marvels (H2 channel on cable) as I was typing the previous message. Small world.

Have found some information about his wife, Lillian. She was born Lillian Hammerton in 1874 in New York, USA.. She died in San Diego County, California on 21 Jan 1933. According to the 1910 Census, both of her parents were born in England.
Hope this helps you fill in a few gaps.

Thank you for the transfer, I know his son was a blacksmith. His lst cousin, my ancestor, was a blacksmith and they lived close in Marion County, Tenn. This gets another child linked to his parents. Thanks again, Don Kirk

(Please check your edits.) Thank you for his monument photo and all the work you do. I now have his mother's memorial (she is my ancester Garrett Kirk's sister) and I am trying to link all the children. We have been to Freestone County and visited with our Beene relatives. We have been Kirk- Beene researchers for 50 years. Please transfer to me so I can link and write a bio. Thanks Don Kirk (D & N Kirk)
