Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Robert C. Johnston, Jr. I live in Wetumpka, AL and have been researching and documenting my family tree for nearly 20 years now. I am a member of the National Society Sons of American Revolution, having proven my lineage to William Cornelius, an Artillery Matross in the Continental Line Army under Gen. Washington. I love researching in courthouses and walking old cemeteries, taking photos and transcribing tombstone inscriptions. I also love hunting down and photographing my ancestor's old homesteads across GA, AL, and MS.My Father's lines are all from MI, OH, and RI. Some of his ancestors have been in Colonies since the 1630's and several of his ancestors were founding fathers of Rhode Island, including Samuel Gorton, John Warner, Stuckley Westcott, and Gov. Benedict Arnold. Many of my Mother's lines can be traced back to 17th Century Virginia. My primary maternal surnames I'm researching are WHITE, OLIVER, NEWMAN, MCCOLLUM, WIMBISH, ALLEN, SHELTON, GOSS, CARTER, WILLIAMSON, HEARD, HAMLET, CORNELIUS, CARLISLE and GILLILAND, mostly migrating from VA>GA>AL>MS. My paternal surnames I'm researching are Johnston, Francis, Wilson, Beckwith, Eddy, Arnold, Westcott, and Woodhead.Dear Ancestor,Your tombstone stands among the rest;Neglected and alone,The name and date are chiseled outOn polished marbled stone. It reaches out to all who careIt is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist. You died and I was born.Yet each of us are cells of youIn flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulseEntirely not our own.Dear Ancestor, the place you filledOne hundred years agoSpreads out among the ones you leftWho would have loved you so.I wonder if you lived and love.

RE: William Alfred williams
Mr. Johnston, thanks for the inquiry and I am looking to see if that name appears in my tree. At first glance, it does not ring any bells. i will research and let you know. However, Cartersville does ring a bell but i think it was later Williams decedents who left Bham and moved there following the railroad business?

A good source for you would be to go to Samford library and search the 1967 publication of Joseph William's American descendants. i only have excerpts I copied from it pertaining to my line of Williams.

Hezekiah Williams is the Jefferson county progenitor of the large Williams clan which is or has been reduced by 1947 in Bham area. He had 5 or 6 sons and they spread out across Bham to huffman, enlsey, eastlake, ... from Williamsburg (now Porter) AL. that is near the Miller power plant. They William's were essentially the early founders of Bham.

William Alfred one of his sons had 4 sons but none name Hosea? I am sorry.

RE: Rev. A. C. Yeargan

I've added the newspaper account you sent from "The Roanoke Leader" as well. All of this info on a memorial adds a lot. I hear from people quite frequently who appreciate all this. Also it's good to hear from you again.

I do believe the cemetery will give information to family about burials. I was only able to get the location of her burial since I was not related.

Per your request for a photo of her headstone, I am sorry to say per cemetery records, she does not have a headstone. The section she is buried in is called "New Single". The photo I posted shows the area of her burial plot. In the photo is a white board about where she is buried. On the photo I have put her name (In red)in the area she is buried. The photo is looking north towards the Garden of the Apostle monument in the cemetery.
Hope this helps you.
