Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in Concord, NC and I very much enjoy doing genealogy research with over 6,300 family names in my data base.

I am very interested in ancestors who were in the military and especially the ones who fought in the Revolutionary War. I have identified 67 ancestors and close relatives who fought for independence in the War Between the States. I am a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Capt. Jonas Cook SCV Camp #888.

Some of my ancestor names are Allen, Carpenter, Cauble, Caudle, Hildreth, McKay, Morrison, Motley, Faggart (Fegert), Bost, Corzine, Armstrong, Smith, Reed.

Thank you for doing such a great job. Do you have any additional information on the Jesse that is listed as Ben's son? I have been working on a public tree, so far I have not found Jesse as a son, a possible brother but not a son

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

James E. Powell
Hi Tom!

I saw your name on the Memorial page of James E. Powell. Are you, by any chance, related to him? If so, how?

The reason I ask is because he was listed as a witness on the 17 Jan 1861 Tensas Parish, LA Marriage Certificate of my proven 3rd great-grandparents John J. Powell (c.1825 NC - 19 Feb 1865 Elmira, NY POW Prison Camp) and Mary Jane Warner (1846 MS - 1902 MS). (My sister and I went to the Parish Courthouse in St. Joseph's, Tensas Parish, Louisiana about a month or so ago, and we found his original marriage license and his probate papers).

We also found in McComb, MS genealogy room a book of Civil War Soldiers in POW prison camps. That's where we discovered that James E. Powell died within a month of my 3rd great-grandfather John J. Powell in the very same POW Prison Camp in Elmira, NY. They both died of pneumonia, and both are buried in the CSA Section of Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY. John's grave number is #2338.

I believe that James E. Powell must have been a relative of my 3rd g-gf John J. Powell. Therefore, any information you'd be willing to share about James would be most appreciated. I am trying to determine who John J. Powell's father and mother were, and knowing more info about James E. Powell could help me in solving that mystery.

I want to thank you for finally ending my search for his father. Others had his father listed but I think they just took a guess. You have information to back up what you have listed. He was my fourth great grandfather.

Thanks Sherill Sheldon

Location of Cotton Ancestors In North Carolina
Hello Tom...
As you know, my Great Grandmother was Sallie B. Cotton of Louisiana.
In William Davis Cotton's book, "The Cotton's of Catahoula"... he has a picture of himself next to some grave markers of two Cotton ancestors taken somewhere in North Carolina.
He does not give a good indication as to where this old grave markers or... the cemetery is located.
Would you (or anyone) happen to know where this is?

george faggart
Do you have anything like probate records that prove George Faggart born 1780 N C is the son of Jacob Faggart [Fegert] Sr. and Anna Maria Fischer Faggart? I have been researching that line for a cousin through Barnett Cruse who is son of George Faggart's? Would appreciate hearing from you, but I am not really good on the computer. Contact me at
