I'm Bruce Paul, a long time resident of Bedford County, Virginia.
I enjoy history, photography and the outdoors.
You are welcome to use my photos for personal use. Please give me credit as "Contributor #46829150" and reference this website.
Although most of what I contribute here is photography related, I'm a map/plat sort of person. I enjoy the challenge of finding "places".
I appreciate the updates and stories that all of you have provided! I don't have time to respond with a Thanks for each one, but rest assured I review them all for consistency and take care of them as soon as I can.
I'm currently working on the LOG sister cemeteries (Longwood, Oakwood, Greenwood) in Bedford, VA. To be more specific I'm in Greenwood taking photographs, working my way south from Longwood Av. Note that you can view GPS coordinates in the photo EXIF data if you download that photo.
Thanks to the Bedford Genealogical Society for updates, the online Bedford Cemetery Records (Ramaker.Com), and the resources of the Bedford Museum for their help in this endeavor.
Also a thanks to the VA Dance Studio in Forest, VA (vadance.com) for letting me use their studio as a comfortable place to organize and upload my photos. I confess... I'm a dedicated Ballroom Dancer.
Last Update/Review Jan 2017.

Thank you for accepting the edits for the memorial of Nancy Hodges #76788138. I have since sent another one. I appreciate you accepting it also.
I would be pleased if you would go to my Bio and visit my parents' memorials by clicking on their links.

Since you removed the photo of the stone from Eliza Vincent Cauthorn Rucker's memorial in Greenwood, are you indicating she is actually buried in Longwood?
The other memorial in Greenwood is a duplicate of yours in Longwood. I just want to be certain which cemetery is the correct one for her burial before contacting Find-A-Grave to have the other one merged into your memorial for Eliza.
Thanks for any help.
|Marcia De Sarro-Witt||3 wooden crosses 1925|
email@example.com (Bedford website)
seems to have found them:
George D. Witt and
Dora L. Wade married Dec 4, 1877.
Bedford Museum CD did not know
where they were buried.
Marcus Woodford has the family plot showing house and well. I have tried to write to
you in a private message but your carrier will not accept my email. It does not recognize @firn.edu which stands for Florida Internet Research Network for educators.
|Marcia De Sarro-Witt||Woodford's Corner|
Could you help out Marcus Woodford. He is trying to mark 3 graves: they are next door to Woodford's Corner in Huddleston.
In 1925 there were 3 wood cross on property next door to his father's farm.
1.George D. Witt
3.another unmarked grave.
Call him: Marcus Woodford at 314-920-5981
Do you mind taking the time to connect Paul Hager #122024968 with his wife Carrie Graves Hager #122024944, please. They had no children, only each other. BTW, Paul was one of the first All-American football players ever recognized and played with Knute Rockne. Pretty cool! And Carrie was an early woman's rights worker ensuring factory conditions were fair for women employees.
|Butterfly||Nicholas Carter Cemetary|
Hello. Do you recall where the Nicholas Carter Cemetary is located ? Thank you.
I noticed that you did several photos for Bondurants in VA....are you related to them by chance or just doing photo requests? My greatgrandmother was a Bondurant from VA.
This is a good site for an explanation....
this one actually shows a man using the rods and how it works for him.....
You need to be relaxed and hold the rods just tightly enough to hold them straight out so that they can move in your hands. Start in a cemetery that has marked graves but do not look to see whether it is male or female. You can practice there and let you get the feel of the rods and how loose you need to hold on- then you can actually check to see if you made the correct guess on the sex of the person. The rods should cross over just as you get to one end of the body and they will uncross at the other end. That will give you and approximate idea of the age by the length....child, teen, adult.
It is really something you have to practice and get the feel for. It did work for me the first time the lady worked with me- my skeptic husband was kind of laughing off to the side, but quickly changed his mind after he gave it a try. The most important thing to do is stay relaxed and hold the rods as loosely as you can so they are free to move..... feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. It really is a neat thing to experience.
