Bio and Links
Bio Photo If you can, please upload smaller pictures, rather than larger ones, to Find A Grave. That is, try to keep your gravestone photos under 1 MB if you can. Whether you upload a 750 kb photo, or a 5 MB photo, it's going to look about the same on the front page of a Find A Grave memorial page, so there's no advantage to a larger photo, and some disadvantages. A 5 MB photo takes up a lot more space on their servers, than a 750 kb photo. And a 5 MB photo takes much longer to download, (when one goes to the page) than a 750 kb photo.

I place a period after middle initials. (Example: John A. Doe) It says right in the FAQ of Find A Grave, "Use a period after names where only an initial is known." (I also put a period after my middle initial when I sign my name. : ))

Most of the memorials I created, I did back in 2007, taking their name, dates, burial place from a Brown County, Kansas cemetery list. I'm not doing that anymore as others have taken up that process and are whizzing right thru it. May be close to complete for Brown county. As of late I've been working on updating my memorials one at a time. Looking for their obits, locating them in censuses and linking them to family.

On another note:
There was a one-page article in the June 2011 issue of National Geographic about the number of people who have ever lived on earth. After much research American demographer Carl Haub estimated that 108 billion people lived (and died) between 50,000 B.C. and 2011.

RE: Lena Bock Helfenbein
Wow! Thank you so much Keith. I haven't even read them yet. Had to thank you first. Btw, coincidentally, I found Pat the other day when I posted a notice in the Ancestry forums and she confirmed that she was the Pat who gave you the earlier information. I believe she plans to contact you again.

Thank you so much! These people are most important to me and my family.

Lena Bock Helfenbein
Hello Keith,

Regarding Lena Bock Helfenbein, Find A Grave Memorial# 23292596, thank you for the detailed information you provided. You say on the page that the information came from "Pat." Did he or she supply you with an obituary, or was this oral history or, perhaps from a written record?

I have been trying to verify some of the details in the record and so far unable to find secondary sources. Would so much appreciate any information you can provide.

Thank you for all the work you do on Find A Grave.

Best wishes,
Kathryn

Hi Keith,
I would prefer not to delete my memorial for Daisy Chestnut. She either has two stones in two different cemeteries or the other contributor has the memorial and stone photo in the incorrect cemetery. I know for a fact my photo came from the Fredonia cemetery since I have never had to pleasure of visting the Bachelder cemetery.

Thanks
Judy

Miles Housh
I just looked at the duplicate for Miles Housh and the cemetery is listed as Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Hiawatha. The photo I took of his stone is definitely in the Hiawatha Cemetery, not Pleasant Hill......so not sure how you want to handle the merge.

Sorry about the duplicate on Miles Housh. I no longer have that photo on my computer, so maybe you can request findagrave to merge the memorials? Someone has added a lot of info to the one I made, so merging would ensure that the links wouldn't be lost. Thanks for finding the duplicate--Marla
